matilda1
What do puppies dream about? Last night little Katie must have had a nightmare. I was sitting watching TV and she was fast asleep at my feet. She started dreaming like puppies often do with her little feet paddling and quiet barks in her sleep. Suddenly she woke up almost screaming, looked around and lept up on my lap wanting cuddles. She was terrified........... poor little girl must have had a nightmare. :D ;) It took about 5 minutes before she seemed to forget about it. She was really quite concerned. clinging to me and quietly crying.
Bundyburger
Dogs dream just like we do. If you pander to them and smother them with love and kisses if they get upset then it'll only make it worse. If our dogs get really antsy in their sleep we just prod them awake and then they fall back into a dreamless sleep again. They've never really gotten terrified about it thoguh. matilda1
I didn't pander to her at all. The poor little thing LEAPT up in fright and was on my lap before I even knew she was awake. She was TERRIFIED almost to the point of shaking. I've never seen anything like it. I normally just ignore the puppy dreams and let them dream. stormie
Orbit had nightmares a fair bit after I bought him home. He'd wake up screaming - pretty freaky! He dreams a fair bit now and is very very vocal and active while he sleeps - it's pretty funny. I'd love to know what he's dreaming about cause he whines, howls and growls. Occasionally he still has the bad ones where he'll wake up terrified, usually if something has changed, like I've moved house or something. matilda1
Thanks, it's comforting to know that others have them too. Not that I am glad your dog has to go through it, but I have had dogs ALL my life and have never seen a nightmare before. I think it freaked us both out. It's nice to know it's not abnormal. persephone
I;ve not seen a pup with nightmares- but knew a young dog once who had shocking nightmares after escaping a housefire by jumping thru a window
koalathebear
Elbie's had one nightmare since we've had him. Usually when he's dreaming - he's clearly running. We see his little paws running through the air and sometimes he'll make little barking/yipping noises that are very cute. Once though, he kind of snapped awake and started barking like crazy and looking quite frightened. He was in his crate at the time and by the time I peered in to look at him, he was awake and calmer, but it was clear that he'd had a bit of a fright. I have to admit I did say: "It's ok, Elbie, don't be frightened," and I patted him - but he seemed fine and hasn't had a nightmare since. I hope Katie doesn't have anymore bad dreams! Given how great her life is right now, I'm sure she'll be dreaming of running, playing, toys and food
matilda1
Thanks KB. katies had a great life from day dot. her breeder was FANTASTIC. So a genuine nightmare i presume for no good reason. She is a very quiet and submissive dog who probably worries a lot.

BCPuppy
Aww poor Katie, hope there have been no more bad dreams. Marlin dreams quite often, especially after she has had a big day with doggie friends. The usual yips and growls and legs twitching and running like mad, I find it amusing as she is more vocal in her dreams than in real life play
matilda1
No more nightmares to date, just the usual chasing something and suckling dreams.
