bedazzledx2
I had a terrible day today...thank God its over and no one was hurt. I took my car to be serviced a couple of kms from work and as I had Brookie with me and it was a lovely morning I thought I'd take him with me and we would walk back to work. Got about a kilometer down the road and 3 humungus dogs (politically incorrect to mention breed type) were fence barking at a nereby yard. OK I thought, they're guard dogs...I'll take a wide berth.....the gates were open and I had one come straight across the road, hackles up, no slowing down, coming straight for us followed by the other two. Now I am a pretty experienced dog person and I know the difference between attack and greeting...these guys were on the attack!!! Very fortunately there was a lunch shop right next to me so we turned and ran (and I mean ran....record breaking stuff) into it and the dogs peeled off. We had to go out the back of the lunch shop and through the lane way out the back to escape the situation! The girls in the lunch bar told me the dogs were not guard dogs and had been dumped My plan was to approach the people in the yard who were interacting with the dogs until they launched their attack, and get the facts. Unfortunately by the time my car was ready to be collected they were closed and there is no sign of the dogs. I cadged a lift from a friend as there was no way I was taking a dog with me and by then it was getting a bit dark. Damn!!!! the streets are being overtaken by frigging thugs! both canine and human!!! I know its not the attacking dogs fault and they are as much victims as we could have been but...... I also know that they are probably lovely dogs with people but I also know that my dog was in danger and that put me in danger also as I would defend my dog. Today we were lucky.... I now can't take my obedience trained dog who walks beautifully on a loose lead. I was fine until a few hours later and then I got the shakes just thinking about what could have happened. I stopped at the liquor store on the way home and now a few bourbons later I'm really "p" off!!!!!!
Juno09
Gosh! that would have been scary! I personally have not encountered this kind of situation, but I know ppl that have....some of them never really get over the event....sorry this has happened to you, it is such a shame that so many dogs out there are unloved and untrained. I hope the memories of this horrid event pass quickly for you, and I hope those dogs have a happy life, eventually..... They just don't know any better Thankyou for sharing this experience. JulesP
Very scary bedazzled. Glad you are both ok. I live in the very beautiful Yarra Valley but can't walk my dogs around here due to the guard dogs. Most of the time they are well contained but when they do get out it is very scary. Last time I walked out one was out and came across the road in prey mode. No growling, no barking, no hackles up, just stalk and then attack. I had no where to go. Poor Brock didn't even fight back. My screaming got the owners out of the house. The neighbors dogs got out once and bailed me up in the house. Other neighbors have maremmas that live out in the paddock. They have also got out before. Used an umbrella once to poke one back into their garden, lol. Don't fancy walking the borders past that property.
corvus
As much as I love and am comfortable with dogs, a dog on the attack is a different creature all together to me. Talk about heart in your mouth! I think the worst is seeing one attack someone else. Suddenly there is no murkiness or uncertainty to hide behind. You know for a fact the dog attacks people and there you are, no idea what to do or how to get home without going past the crazy dog that will most likely try to do you some harm. And if you happen to have a small corgi with you who depends on you, you get the sinking feeling that this dog is going to try to kill her. Then again, last time I thought me and my dog were about to get taken apart by another dog charging down on us at a gallop, hackles up, teeth bared and roaring (not barking or growling, but roaring), he turned out to be friendly. I was convinced we were in a lot of trouble. Still have no idea where that came from or what his intention was. We have since seen the same dog and he didn't greet us in the same manner, thank goodness. Don't think my heart could take it. Go have a hot bubblebath, read a good book, and try to relax. Tiggy
Glad you and Brookie are okay . It's always scary when a loose dog comes running at you and three loose dogs . I'd report it to the Ranger if I was you. By the way I drove past your shop on Tuesday and saw your car out the front but was to chicken to come in and say Hi . Tassie
OMG bedazzled - poor you and poor Brookie - thank goodness the lunch shop was there for you to escape through. Hope the liquor did the trick - have some more tonight if you need it.
RallyValley
Today I was driving home and was behind a bus so took a quiet side street shortcut. I turned the corner and a loose dog comes chargng towards my car, I have to swerve into the other lane to avoid it. Then I see the owner laughing at me while walking her other dog (which was a rotty) too offleash along the footpath. Yeah really funny if I had hit her dog or I had hit another car head on! Feeling sorry for you Bedazzled.
Mas1981
What an awful thing to have happened, lucky the lunch shop was right there, would hate to think what would have happened if it wasn't..... I would also report it to the ranger as the next person or dog might not be as lucky.

spottychick
Oh that is a horrible experience - I've had something similar happen and one incident where the dog actually had it's jaws around my dogs neck - I can well understand the bourbon and reluctance to go out with the dog - but it will pass (both the bourbon and the reluctance LOL) So glad your little sweetys okay
