Poster Sized Prints

I was going to get a photo printed out as a 50x75 photo at Snapfish.com.au. I upload my photo and it tells me i can't go that high as the resolution is too low.

It says for a 50x75 the Minimum image resolution required = 1800x2700

My image is Width 4752 x height 3168 taken with a 15mp camera. I figured it would develop something that big.

Does anyone know what needs to be done to a photo to make it able to be printed at that size?

Hi Goldee,

50x75 inches or cm?

15MP should be able to print up to 22 x 30 inches without enlarging.

OK I might be way off with my post here but when we got this sticker print done for the hardlid on our ute we had to get the resolution up from about 3MB up to about 7MB from memory to be able to scan this big and keep it clear. We did the artwork but got a specialist printer place to make it a bit bigger. They then printed it for us.

It was less stress getting them to do it.

15MP but what sort of camera, and what size is the file already that you are trying to upload (go into photoshop, and look at image size, and tell us what it says there, and how many MB the file is)? Some camera phones can take large MP images these days, but does not mean they can blow up to that size satisfactorily - you would be looking at a file taken by an SLR< and one with at least high endish one at that to go really large with clarity.

thanks. I dont have photoshop where i am right now but will check later. The camera it was taken with was a Canon 500D DSLR. The file size is 4.85MB.

The 50x75 is in cm.

Here's how Scott Kelby recommends resizing for poster sized prints if you have Photoshop (if you don't, find someone who does ):

open in photoshop

Image Size from the menu

type in the dimensions you want for your final print

adjust your resolution to 360 - yes, 360.

Select Bicubic sharpener in the drop down menu at the bottom of the Image size screen - again, yes, forget what adobe recommends

You're good to go.

I've used this for some big ass prints from small files and it works a treat.

Oh cool thank you! I have Photoshop elements which will do the same thing i think for those steps! I usually increase resolution to 300 but it still kept telling me it was too low! Will try.
