Purebred Yorkiepoo

I don't know where these people come from as I've never met any. :D Any time I have met someone in the park with a cross breed they tell me their dog is a whatever X whatever. I have had one person tell me their dog was a labradoodle but she didn't use the term purebred.

I really do wonder what the puppy farmers and pet shops are telling people to convince them that their dog is a purebred cross breed! :)

A lot of places will give these people "papers" which of course are bullshit papers that they printed up on there computer themselves.

Ohhh yes, crossbreds and their lovely names.

I have a few amusing examples.

Apparently a cross-bred Staffordshire is actually a 'Southern Cross Staffy', the Australian version of the 'english staffy'. I've heard this a few times, at the pet warehouse, at a puppy class, in my family {blush for embarrasment at being related to them}. My protests that 'english staffy' isn't an actual breed, that 'cross' doesn't mean 'a new breed', and that the real name isn't 'staffy', have been greeted with 'proof', such as "you wouldn't know about them, they're a new breed".

Also, if you have a boxer X poodle, and you cross it with your friend's poodle X boxer, the offspring are not, under any wild imaginings, to be called purebred Boxers or purebred Poodles. When selling them as either fails, don't sell them as booxpools. Yes, folks, you heard it here first. BOOXPOOLS.

Get 'em while they're genetically faulty and tempermentally unstable!

And finally, a cocker spaniel x poodle x poodle x dalmation is a purebred cockadallydoodle.

Really, this is a true story. It's the catchiest name I've heard yet. And boy the lady sure got snarky when I started the "That's not a real breed..." talk.

Try working in a vet clinic !!!

There are times when I almost bite INTO my tongue to shut myself up !!!!

fifi

I am banned from the reception desk some days because the other staff fear that bad things may happen :D :)

One morning I invoiced a poor lady for a whole bottle of Drontal large dog whilst I was slamming keys on the computer, not my fault some numpty with a multishitpoo whatever was at the counter at the same time.

Luckily the poor customer I was serving is a reg dog exhibitor and we all laughed afterwards.

:D :) Yep, my vet only has to overhear some bullcrap from an 'oodle' or puppyfarm type customer, and suddenly she is hovering about in the background to ensure the customer leaves in one piece and my 'educational' rants don't become a blood bath !!!!! she knows me too well !!!

Its even more funnier when working in a pet shop trying to convince they buyer its a xbred.... :cheer:

My previous boss thought those designer names where cute and even had signs made up for when they get some of those things in...

Fell so sorry for the dogs, people cross them with the poodle cause poodles are the magical breed then don't shed or drop coat and are non allergenic, but once you cross you get different coat...

The intelligence of somepeople make you want to... :D :):( :p

They probaby just grease up the rustydoodle for a mating, WD-40 for general maintance :)

In today's local paper is adverstised Gsd X Rotty pups, parents purebreed! :) :D :cheer:

So how does that make a difference?????????

:( It's pretty scary, but you would be surprised how many people think that because a pup has two purebred parents of different breeds....its still a purebred pup :p

only yesterday I had this conversation at work, and absolutley could not convince the person that their cross bred pup wasn't purebred (insert hitting head repeatedly with brick image here !!)

At our puppy class last week, the instructor mentioned that a lady came to class with a "beagle". It was actually a spoodle! She said the people at the pet shop assured her it was a beagle... think our instructor had to break the news to her!

I'd be asking some questions...

When I first met partner's friend's wife she joked about breeding her petshop Jack Russel bitch with my pure Shih Tzu so we can call the puppies Shit Russels

Luckily I've gotten to know her now and she's a lovely smart girl, her dog was a housewarming gift from a friend. I dont think there's any point telling people off for having cross breeds, by then its too late and they're not going to appreciate you attacking their beloved pet. We're better off educating them gently so that they will consider purebreeds/rescues for their next pet.

A lady came into work the other day with her Pom x. She purchased it from a petshop as a Pom x Shih Tzu - it looked like a giant, not very hair Pom, it almost as big as a Kelpie and apparently behaved like one too...

While I'm all for educating people I often feel bad to get in the face of someone who has already bought the dog. It's all well and good to lecture on cross breeds and puppy farms and the like to someone considering one of these dogs, but a bit late to tell them that when they already have it.

I've no issue with educating them gently - pointing out that their dog is infact a cross as it must have ANKC papers to be registered as a purebred, or saying you should watch this or that because it can be a problem in (insert dog breeds here) and if the parents weren't health tested you need to be aware.

But I'm sure that they would feel pretty devasted to hear that their pups parents are suffering in a puppy mill or that their puppy will likely be blind by the age of 3 because of health problems. It's too late for that...

I remember meeting a man with a tiny black pup last year at our local skate park. I asked him what breed and he proudly said "She's a 12 week old purebred Lab". There was no way this pup was a purebred Lab (unless she was a very bad example of one) but there was no way I was going to tell him this. He was so in love with his little pup that it really didn't matter. If she was not a Lab well he would find that out soon enough. Why ruin someone elses happiness?

However if I knew of someone who was considering buying the latest designer mutt I would go hell for leather as to why they most certainly should not!

I've no issue telling people where pet shop puppies come from or why I would never buy a BYB dog/puppy from the paper/internet etc. But I do have a problem with telling someone that their little bundle of joy (who was bought without knowing any better) is inferior.

I couldn't agree more SecretKei - at the end of the day, if the deed is already done and they are happy and proud of their new puppy, all you can offer is education. For most of us, it seems so simple and obvious, but for the family getting their first ever puppy, its understandable how they would get it wrong with the incorrect message being reinforced by BYBs, Puppy Farmers and pet shops.

In saying that I have spent 10 minutes arguing with someone that my Kelpie x GSD is a Kelpie x GSD, not a "Shelpie". No way are they going to designer dog my Doofus!!!

That is kind of hilarious. Some people just don't get it LOL.

I have a beagle x cocker spaniel but you don't see me going around calling her a "purebred bocker".

I saw my cousin's dog for the first time the other day and I asked what breed he was and she replied with "He's a Rustydoodle!!". A WHAAAAAT LOL. I didn't bother going on about it but I kind of just laughed inside.

I'd have to look underneath to see if he has

Gee do you think that would get in the way of him mating? Or would WD40 fix the situation?

With any luck it would be useless
