shells
CW EW - looking around my local dog park Charlies look is a very popular one. Most of the long haired dogs are clipped back like this - I guess the novelty of brushing regularly wears off and the owners just want something simple to maintain. I have also learnt that not all groomers know how to scissor very well (neither do I ) so a clip all over is common. Its like a bad haircut - give it a week and it wont look strange at all. When my dogs got badly groomed I kept apologising to them LOL - they were happy and it was me with the issue.

Agree with this - looks like a lazy (or not very talented) groomer. I made the mistake of having my 2 poodle boys clipped at the vet's once - they were shaved to the skin (tail & all ) and both of them had nasty rashes on their faces. Having been involved in a grooming business, with a business partner who is a very good groomer who takes great pride in her work, I wouldn't accept such a job again! You do have the consolation that Charlie's hair will grow back, hopefully as good as it used to look. At least he IS cute, and no bad groom can take that away from him! PLEASE can we some some of the "dirty looks" photos you have of Charlie? - they always crack me up ;)
W Sibs
Yeah... I have to remind the boyfriend every day that Charlie's fur will grow! he is still kinda mad about it... Why do people clip their dogs fur in winter?! Craziness... it's freezing!! For poodlemum... Charlie's dirty looks when his photos are taken: (mobile pic... this photo actually makes him look evil!) he is a very sweet natured little fella... just i don't have many pictures of him proving that. All the "happy" shots of him is usually with him sleeping.. ;)
becks
I think he looks fine with that clip, my pets are also clipped summer and winter and they don't feel the cold (nor do they get put in clothes). I'd have more issues with the way the ears have been trimmed, not how i would have done them on him.
Lady Flying Furball
I totally sympathise! I took Tonka for a summer trim and he looked like a different dog...felt really remorseful! However, he did seem to like the change and I am happy to say that it has all grown back in time for winter, as if it had never happened Never again!! I got some really nice polar fleece/ felt type coats in nifty colours from a woman with a dog coat stall out at Windsor Markets on a Sunday. They cost $7 each because Tonka is so little. If anyone is out that way on a Sunday I recommend her products. I am sure she sews them herself and had raincoats too.

Then "Fine, take the bloody picture and get it over with" Lucky he still has his fluffy tail. He must look a little bald compared to Emmy though. That's pretty much his attitude when I take his photos... he will stand still after a while with that face and if I take too long of taking his photo... he will walk away as though saying 'well, you had your chance. you blew it.' Emmy does look bigger then him. I will post another pic of them together later tonight... i took several (hundreds) photos of them together... I just have to pick out the photos where Charlie isn't giving me evil or pretending that I'm not there.
Loving my Oldies
He is a gorgeous little boy, CW, but I wouldn't call whoever cut his ears a groomer. He is such a lucky boy to be so gorgeous that even a bad hair cut couldn't spoil him

Gorgeous boy, I love the feel of freshly clipped dogs lol feels so soft but they do look very handsome with the long feathery coat.
poodlemum
Thanks for those pictures - I just LOVE Charlie! I had Harrison & Dylan "groomed" at my Vet's once - never again - they came back shaved down (including their tails :D ) and it took about 3 weeks before they looked even halfway decent again. I'm very lucky that, in this little rural backwater, I've found an excellant groomer who knows what a Poodle should look like.
shells
Why do people clip their dogs fur in winter?! Craziness... it's freezing!! I leave their coat a little longer but but my guys need a regular clip (atleast every 8-12 weeks) or their coats become harder to maintain and dont look as nice. Plus they need their feet and face done - wet feet in winter can cause yeast infections and I dont like hairy faced poodles LOL.
