Drumbeat
Dear Dolers who know about quilting, I found the fat squares in Spotlight today but don't actually know what to do with them. Do I need to buy wadding to sew them onto? Do I need backing fabric? Thank you from someone who is severely challenged in the quilting dept. (although I do sew quite well!) PossumCorner
On Monday I should get some fat quarters I ordered from USA - dog themes. So I'll be nail-biting close to the deadline for doing squares. I also ordered a full set of rubber stamps of purebred dogs (about 40, and just so I could get the Basenji one). They are for our card-making, but if they arrive in time, and if I can afford a good set of fabric paint that will last for years, and a fabric-ink stamp pad, I'd like to experiment with hand-coloured squares. Or see if it works out better to use them with the 'ordinary' colour blenders on card, then photograph them for fabric transfer. Dunno. Fun, whichever way. I forgot to take a picture of my daggy one. I just got the fat quarter (big piece) & stuck a little square in the middle, the little one had a picture of a horse & then used blanket stitch carefully around the out edge of the little square. You could do wadding etc & be really fancy. Say, put wadding between the big square & the little square & the stitch outside of little square AND stitch around the horse. I wasn't brave enough

Golden Rules
Unfortunately I just don't have the skills to do anything special to my fat quarters so they will be just plain but pretty floral squares and they will allow everyone else's art/craftwork to shine ;)
bertie
I realised when I looked again that it's a flat fat so maybe not the right thing? Yes, they're flat. I had two pieces of fabric. Both flat. The 'fat square' & then I bought another, different piece of fabric that had pictures on it. I cut out a picture & stuck it in the middle of the 'fat square'. All of mine was flat. But if I had have put wadding in between the two flat pieces (making like a ravioli lol) I would have then sewn around some features on the little picture, (as well as around the outside of the little picture) which will give you a 3D-ish effect. ;) Here is my crap example in paint. The purple represents the fat square. The white represents the little picture square, stuck on the top
Dodo
bertie I am sure yours is lovely .I think the true spirit intended for this quilt has shone through.A lot of people have stepped out of their comfort zone and made or cut a square as their symbol of love, respect and friendship for Jed. ;) I am trying to finish the Dol one to send with Jeds .
