hotdogz
Anyone have working terriers for foxing and rabbitting. Sighthounds for coursing rabbits and hares.
poodlefan
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to course live game in every State and Territory. It certainly is here.
Janba
People do lure course but with an artificial lure and earthdog competitions are run in NSW for terriers that go to ground, not sure about other states. Herding is also popular with owners of herding breeds amd regular competitions held in most states.

Just to provide a bit more information, it is illegal to keep and release a captive animal for the purposes of the chase, which is IIRC how the NSW law defines it. However, if I understand the rules in NSW correctly, it is not illegal if your dog takes a rabbit or hare that has come up out of its "own" paddock. In the USA and other places, many prefer to have dogs on a field where the incumbent hares/rabbits know the territory and the dogs don't anyway - and they like to see the littlest athlete get away after a good chase as well. For the OP, I can't speak for terriers but I suspect it's a bit like sighthounds. Most people I know who have sighthounds have dogs who can do the job - but that's not the only reason we keep them. Nekhbet
it is illegal to purpously course, but if you are rabbiting and a rabbit bolts the net then there is no probs in vic if the dog goes off to catch it. We just use ferrets
