Malinworx
Is it common for a bitch to take a while to come into season following a litter of pups. My bitch had a litter and it has been 12 months since she has had a proper season. Can dogs being worked hard physically affect their cycle? Many thanks. ellz
If a bitch is very fit and very lean they can stop cycling. It is a hormonal thing, similar to athletic human women I'm led to believe. On the subject of "odd" seasons, I've had a bitch go 3 years without a season yet on the other hand, I've had a bitch come into season twice within a matter of 6 months after a c-section. The first a very very light one, the second, a more normal one.
Joan of Arc
Our older girl always takes 14 months to come into season after her litters
ozmalinois
I've given up trying to work our girls out lately... Got girls that were always 6mths to the day not come in for 12mths, others that are coming in every 3 - 4 mths at the moment and a girl that we weaned pups off at 5 weeks and she was back in season the next week. Can only put it down to the weather and just have to keep a much closer eye on them.
