Jetty
I have heard you can get a running line for dogs to keep them contained. They are a long line with another line that comes off of it to attach to the dogs collar if that makes sense. Does anyone know what they are actually called and where I could get one? Thanks

SwaY
I think a run offers more freedom then a containment line. That alone sells it for me
Gilypoo
I had a very sick and blind cat that loved being outdoors most of the day, however she would get confused and wander off so we made a contraption like the one you are taliking about. We just tied a piece of rope from point a to b the tied a sliding not on it and tied it onto her collar so she couldnt get away. I worked a treat for small amounts of time however we found that she would tangle her self up and get stuck if left on there too long.
GeckoTree
It's called a cable run. pet stores sell runners, but they are pretty poor quality, you are best to make your own up just use the pet store ones as a template. This is what I use when camping.
Jetty
Good point I will take a look at some and see if we can produce our own. I am just worried if we make our own it won't be very strong. Edited May 21, 2010 by ♥JJ
GeckoTree
The pet store ones are about $20 if my brain recall is correct.

persephone
PLEASE bear in mind if you are setting one of these up ... you need a LARGE clear area .. no shrubs/trees,roots,pots /fences within the range of the length of the tether, and about a metre besides - so dogs CANNOT reach anything with their front paws , and risk injury by tangling/jumping. If you are wanting to do TWO - the dogs must not be able to get within a metre of each other at least- to avoid tangling/strangulation. Also- with these cables - if not kept reasonably taut..they can get tangled around feet/legs. For a running line I prefer a heavyish chain as the tether. Building a run is actually a lot less stressful! And safer for your dog. It doesn't need to be very expensive- pavers/fence panels(2nd hand is fine) ... small amount of roofing material .... depending on the dog's size- even 2nd hand aviaries/chook pens will do . Jetty
It will be only the one dog we are needing to contain due to lack of fencing. I will see what the OH can put together, I would prefer the fenced run.

GeckoTree
Oh if its sort of semi perminant yeah I agree, build a fenced in run, Its quite easy. Edited May 21, 2010 by GeckoTree
Jetty
Thanks. Its not a perminant thing so it needs to be eaisly portable thats why I thought the line would be eaiser but by the sound of it, its more effort then its worth.
