Dog Dna May Sort Out Smelly Mess At Condo

It's a controversial proposal that's making national headlines. A ritzy Baltimore condo complex is considering collecting DNA from dogs to figure out who isn't picking up their pet's mess. Kai Jackson reports it's such a contentious issue, they couldn't reach an agreement Wednesday night.

Someone's dog keeps leaving a mess all over the inside of the building. Since they haven't caught the dog owner who's responsible, they're hoping science can.

Inside Scarlett Place condos, a few residents are barking mad that someone's dog keeps taking bathroom breaks in the wrong places, including elevators and hallways, and its owner never cleans up. That's why some board members have proposed an amendment requiring all dogs in the building get DNA tested for $50. Then any dog feces they find will be shipped to the lab for testing to find out which pet is responsible.

"The whole doggie DNA idea is poo-posterous," said dog owner Richard Hopp. "I've never seen a problem and I've lived here four years. I've asked other people and they haven't seen anything either."

Hopp agrees the offender should be caught and punished, but he thinks DNA testing is taking it a bit too far.

"Security cameras, wireless cameras--there's a million other less intrusive, less expensive ways to handle this pretty minor problem," Hopp said.

"It's silly to spend our energy and money this way," said Larry Sorensen.

He doesn't think there's a problem in the building and calls DNA testing going overboard.

"It reminds me of taking an elephant gun to shoot an ant," he said.

Under the proposal, there would be a $500 fine if DNA determines your dog is the culprit.

The plan has been scrapped. It's not known if there will be a new vote taking place.

Such a funny story , but I do feel for the people, nothing worse than dog poops no being cleaned up, especially inside buildings

I think a strategic placed cctv camera woud be better in catching whose dog is crapping the condo. Not to mention less messy.
