mantis
My daughter & her partner have just bought a house on nearly two acres & she wants a Ridgeback, but she wants a rescue one, as she hates seeing dogs in pounds etc, So does anyone know of any Ridgeback youngsters in Melbourne who need a home? She will be a good owner, as she has been brought up with dogs & loves them.

mantis
Pedigree or RRB crosses? I assessed a lovely RRB x at AAPS today. She doesn't mind if it's a cross or not a pedigree, but she does want a young dog.
Erny
You could perhaps contact the Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue group - they're in QLD but perhaps they have contact with foster homes who are housing Ridgies in other States? It might be a long shot, but if it helps, the number contact (assuming it is current) is 07 5529 9903. Good luck. Your daughter has good taste and a great sense of compassion. My first Ridgy (pictured in my avatar - bhcs) was a "re-home" and I never had a moment's regret that she made her way into my home and my heart. Lab_Rat
Hehe, no probs Erny! My first port of call is to go to the states club page if they have one! I didnt realise your first girl was a rescue! Hows young Mandela going? Rat
Erny
I didnt realise your first girl was a rescue! "Private" rescue. Friend of a friend had a friend who knew a friend. Kal was going to be pts if owner was unable to find a home. Hows young Mandela going? Continues to be a work in progress. Improvement, but not 'fixed'. Too much to clog up Mantis' thread with so won't go into it here. Suffice to say he's not out of the woods but for the time being he's eating, his foot cysts have all but gone and whilst he blew some hives the other day I could count them on one hand and they disappeared by themselves. Sloppy poo is what we're struggling to fix at the moment. Apart from that he's still a big, goofy idiot who thinks the world is his play pen and that he knows it all . Thanks for asking. Sorry about the OT Mantis. Edited May 20, 2010 by Erny

Her Majesty Dogmad
I deal with Ridgie Rescue in NSW - they are fantastic, very proactive and will even help a Ridgie cross if they can. Let me know if you can't find help in Victoria because I can give you the NSW contact.

Thanks for that, my daughter is looking for a pup, I told her that is going to be difficult, because peple don't get rid of their dogs until they mature. Her Majesty Dogmad
Well I just came across a 6mth old Lagotto pup in rescue (actually advertised by RSPCA here on DOL) and a 5 mth old cattle dog. Best to ask because you never know. There are some other breeders advertising dogs under a year that have been returned to them too.
Burkes
Mantis, did your daughter find a Ridgy pup? ARF have this one listed if she can transport it from Canberra. Only 3 months old and looks very cute! www.fosterdogs.org.au
mantis
She is so cute. Unfortunately their property isn't fenced yet, so they are a few weeks off being ready for a dog.
