Red Fox
What raw food are you feeding? If you are set on feeding raw you could try swapping a portion of her meals (or alternate entire meals) for raw pureed veg. Veggies will fill her tummy but not allow her to gain weight. Roo is good too as it's nice and lean. But you would only need tiny, tiny pieces of tail bone.. Ditch the rawhide, it's no good for her, stop the treats too - she doesn't need them. If you want to give treats they need to be coming out of her daily meal allowance. In all honesty Supercoat is not the best brand. If her weight problem is that severe you would probably do best to take her off raw completely and get her onto a more balanced prescription diet as suggested. It would be much easier to moniter and manage. If your local vets don't have it ring around until you find someone who does, it's not that hard to find. I believe that there are internet stockists now of Hill prescription too.
bridie
She's put on weight!!! 2 months ago she weighed 4 kilos, now she's 4.5!!! You are obviously feeding her way too much. If you are serious about getting the weight off her you need to stop feeding her so much. Truly, if you'd cut her food down as you say you have, in 2 months she would definitely have lost weight, not put on half a kilo. I am sorry, but whatever you are currently doing, it's wrong. I wish she could go to doggy fat camp. My error ...always was 4.5 kilo not 4. I am sending her down to Yarra Valley boot camp :p
Zombie Bait
I honestly can't believe this. It's been 2 months since you first posted in a panic about bindi's HD and weight and yet in that time she has gained 500grams? To put that into perspective that is like my very lean 45kg dog putting on 9kg in 2 months. I really don't know how she has gained if you have lessened her food. My boy, brembo, is 35kgs. He is a perfect weight for his height and structure. He has a beautiful tuck up. Over Xmas the dogs were left with a house sitter for 10 days. I came back to brembo being about 2kgs overweight and he had lost his tuck. Well it only took 2 weeks to get that tuck back and those 2 kg off. I cut his food by half and no amounts of puppy dog eyes would get me to give him more food. My dogs get fed twice daily. Brembo gets 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening. Sierra gets 2 cups n the morning and 2 cups in the evening. They get fed royal canin large breed adult. On the days they get a bone, they get NOTHING else. The bone is also removed after a couple of hours as brembo will stay out there all night if need be. You need to get serious. Your dog has been diagnosed with HD and is grossley overweight. She needs to be on pumpkin and not much else to work that weight off of her. It's not cruel. What's cruel is letting her get to such an obese weight in the first place. You've had 9 pages of good advice. Get real and be "mean" to bindi and stop feeding her so much. She'll be happier in the long run as will you. poodlefan
Bridie, I really think you need to take Bindi's food bowl into the vet and have them show you how much food to give her. Once you have that, she should get NOTHING but that food. No treats, no sneaks of other dogs bowls. No food from your plate either. Even if someone else did take her to get the weight off, unless you learn to discipline yourself not to overfeed, she'll be back at square one before you know it. You are literally killing this dog with kindness. You need to understand that her weight will take years off her life and see her in pain before too long. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but that's the reality you confront. Do what is right for your dog, harden your heart and help her.

Hills diet R/D t'morrow, hopefully she will like it,maybe plain ol'bones one night and Kangaroo or raw rump another,to break the boredom of dry 7 days a week.Rather surprised that she will take the mashed pumpkin from my fingers but not plate, hungry enough I suppose one will eat "anything"lot worse stuff than pumpkin. Ravyk
:D I was wondering too . Hi folks, Today was a bitter dissappointment, weighs exactly the same, bit of a blow seeing Bindie has not cheated nor have I,I see the Specialist on Monday so will have word to him, must have to cut it back to 90grams to get her to 3kilos,when "we" get to that weight, then consider if need be 60 grams to be 2 kilos. No excuses, don't know what to think except to cut back further,I weigh Bindies but the others are loving the BARF,puppies don't even want to eat the mince, rice, pasta& veges for breakfast.......some-one has to eat it as I had cooked up 5 kilos in the freezer & just want it gone, great no more cooking. bridie, you NEED to feed your dog less. I had my Mother In Laws dogs with me for three weeks. Both grossly overweight. They should have weighed around 4-5kgs and were both at the 10kg mark. I fed them 100-120 grams of roo meat and mashed pumpkin [so all up about 50-60g of meat] and one SMALL chicken neck each day. No dry food, no treats unless it was taken out their meals. When they left my care after three weeks, they'd both lost about 2.5kgs of the weight. They weren't exercised much as I wasn't well and couldn't cope walking 4 dogs too much. She will be hungry to begin with, because she is used to eating a huge amount BUT it doesn't mean she NEEDS more food. She will whinge and whine and make big puppy dog eyes at you, lead you to the fridge or pantry and just generally try manipulating you into feeding her more. You NEED to be strong. Don't fall for the pleading puppy dog eyes. It is for her own benefit if you stay strong. I feed my dogs a combination of Barf/raw and I go by the rule of 2% of their body weight is what they get in meat. My 22kg dog gets 500g [because he burns it off very quickly and needs a bit extra] and my 15kg dog gets 300g. A chi who weighs 2kg at its optimal weight would be getting 40g of meat. MsKatie
My 50kg dog gets 2 cups dry and a kg of raw a day - and he is a puppy - my 20 kg dog (high energy breed) gets 1 1/2 cups dry and 200g of raw a day - they are both lean build
rubiton
And once the food arrives you dont have to 'add a variety to avoid boredom' dogs dont 'get bored' with food. If its in the bowl and they are hungry they eat it - they dont go oh I had that last night... Kind of defeats the purpose of prescription food to add extra stuff (and bones are high in fat if they get access to the marrow). Only reason would be later once the weight is down to being at a better level for YOUR pocket to try and find other meals that wont stack on weight. Souff
Souff is not going to read all these pages of helpful hints ... Souff should be doing other things! However, there are 3 things that I know work well when trying to turn little wombats into slim little cinderellas: GELATIN, CABBAGE, EXERCISE Now, exercise might not be possible for your little dog at this stage, but if you think you can take her for a regular short walk, please do so. Important: ALL WALKS MUST BE DONE AFTER EATING! Important: FOOD MUST NOT BE GIVEN IN THE EVENING! Dogs sleep on it and DO NOT burn off the kilojoules. Now, what is this about GELATIN, you ask? Well, gelatin is a clear-ish powder that you get from the supermarket cooking stuff aisle. You mix some with a bit of warm water and make a paste, then add some hot water to make it runny. Then all you have to do is add it to some nice soft mushy food (yes, I know soft food is not good for teeth) and let the dog eat it. The gelatin has NO TASTE so will not turn your dog off a favourite food. Now, HOW does the gelatin help your dog lose weight? Very simple. It makes your dog feel as though she has a lot of food in her tummy ...... like "Oh, I feel so FULL, and I didnt eat much food at all! I could not eat ANOTHER THING!" This is what you need to achieve. A satisfied little dog who is no longer hungry and is losing weight. Hungry dogs on diets have big pleading eyes and humans give them treats between meals, or another meal, because they feel sorry for the dog. No treats! No extra meals! After a week of using the Gelatin, cook a couple of cabbage leaves in a pot of water on the stove, or in the microwave. Chop them up fairly finely. Add a spoonful of cabbage to every meal of dog food mush and gelatine. The cabbage has a wonderful filling effect, as does the gelatin, and it is also a diuretic. She will be weeing more and flushing her kidneys of toxins and fats. PUT EXTRA BOWLS OF WATER AROUND THE PLACE. She is going to be drinking more water and she needs to do this. Drinking extra water will help her lose weight. So it is: WEEK ONE: Add gelatin to some mushy food. WEEK TWO and thereafter: Add gelatin and boiled cabbage to some mushy food. Lean meats that will also help her are: TURKEY MINCE, MINCED VEAL, ROO MINCE. No fat. No garbage. Just good lean meat. If you really do want to get this weight off her, you will do it. I have used all of the above with great success with little porkers. Get the weight OFF her and you will not only be doing her joints a great big favour, you will be adding back years to her life. Obesity kills dogs. Good luck  Souff

Nothing any different this last week with her diet,so just perhaps now there is a small loss it will continue. Perhaps it has taken her body longer to burn the stored fats. Only thing any different was, I)one 10-15 minutes swimming in hydrobath 2)2 mock swimming sessions in the bath
