Any idea what blood in the urine meansLynda Hi Lynda, I had to get a urine sample from my dog a couple of months ago and found sneaking up behind her (Labrador) with a rectangular take away container worked best for me. I had to watch and wait a while though and missed catching her the first time. The next time the vet got one using a syringe directly into her bladder - much easier! Slides neatly from behind and underneath, yet with it tilted slightly, it holds more than you will require for a urine test. Easy to transfer to a proper urine sample container too, as you can pour from one of the side corners. My previous girl (bhcs) used to squat fairly low, so a container with four sides to it made it a bit awkward to nick it quickly and surreptitiously underneath. Jaxx'sBuddy Posted May 17, 2010 Share Posted May 17, 2010 i use alfoil to make a container that fits the dog without bothering them. i use several layers to make it strong enough. when you get the urine just pour (you can shape a spout) into the container and throw away the alfoil. keroppiyo Posted May 17, 2010 Share Posted May 17, 2010 Yep, rectangular take away container worked for me too. Just pop it between her legs from behind when she squats and starts to pee. It took me a couple of goes to get the sample, but she wasn't bothered by the container being there. I was just too slow in my first attempts. My dogs always want to pee before they go in so I get a sterile kidney dish from the nurse, get the dog out of the car let her squat, collect the sample in the kidney dish which is exactly the right shape to slip under them, and hand it straight back to the vet nurse. Tilly Posted May 18, 2010 Share Posted May 18, 2010 It is probably easier for boys ... but I just used a glove and the sample jar with them on a leash and took them to a tree. They then do what boys do and pee on it ... not once but numerous times so it is just a case of slipping your hand under and getting the sample. It can look a little strange when you are walking up and down the street with a rubber glove and sample jar asking your dog to "go toilet" ... I do get many strange looks. To much information Sorry. The alfoil seems to be a good idea. I would imagine it would be easier to ensure it's clean than a takeway container.
