Breeding Back / Preservation Breeding

I have just been doing some reading and was wondering if anyone does any breeding back or preservation breeding?

From what I gather it is a way of preserving bloodlines, and creating a better gene pool. I believe it can take some time and effort but from my

understanding could be of value in the future?

I don't fully understand it but look forward to any opinions?

I know of one breeder that has a pattern of outcross for two generations then breed back the third. It's worked very well for them with multiple BIS and BISS champions and grand champions. It also depends, of course, on how close you breed back.

Which breed? Just curious.

See if you can get your hand on Advanced Labrador Breeding/Reach fot the Stars by Mary Roslin Williams. She uses the method and describes it in her book. No idead if she is actually succesful, would have to ask lab people.

Interesting... just did a bit of reading on Lloyd Brackett and realised my dog is the result of a mating based on Brackett's 'Ideal Breeding'. The sire of the sire is the grandsire of the dam, on the dam's side. Took me a couple of minutes to get my head around it :(
