Irish Wolfhound ?

 @ IW4ME

She also reminds me very strongly of my Mum's old girl - right down to the colouring and the eyes. And she was from a purebred (working) blue Cattle mum, out of a tan coloured pigging mix dad - who had a smooth coat. So I gather the wirey coat can spring up from generations past, as well as the colouring.

She is lovely.

I've seen plenty of Lab cross Poodles look like that.

Ditto.

Well, I have just googled Lab x poodles and they don't quite look like Chelsea. Seems that the lab x poodles have a slightly more profuse coat. I can't imagine a lab x poodle turning out black and white either but then I am no geneticist.

Being a groomer I see all the DD's in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some I would have sworn were Deerhound or Wolfhound crosses and they were most certainly Lab cross Poodles. The owners were a little surprised that they grew up to look like large hairy hounds.

You can almost knock me down with a feather SBT; I was almost convinced that there had to be wolfhound in the mix. Have you actually seen lab x poodles with a sparse coat?

I agree. I've seen tall, leggy dogs with a shaggy coat in the dog park and asked if they were wolfhound/deerhound crosses because of their coat and leg length. Nope! They are Labradoodles. The owners always seem a little put out that they didn't get the cute curly-coated version. (I always want to say "you paid $1500 for THIS?")

She's certainly a lovely girl but no IW in her I feel.

I would say she is a Bearded Collie cross - her size & overall type & coat resemble them to me.

Below is what an IW female looks like...similar in colour but not in size.

I bet she is very smart...her eyes are just gorgeous - full of love

My lab x poodle boy

He has a very sparse very shaggy coat!

He is a rescue thou so no idea if he really is a lab x poodle. From what I know of his history he was taken out of a puppy farm at 6 weeks that was closed down, then he was at the pound, then he went to a foster carer who ended up being very dodgey apparently and my boy didnt come out of a tiny kennel (cell) till he was around 12months when he was rescued by a REAL rescuer and came to us not long after that. He was a very broken dog still is really but I love him...well most the time!

Hi Sammy Ballerina

Poor boy - glad you have him now.

Looks quite Schnauzer'ish to me. Possibly Standard Schnauzer x poodle? He is very cute.

Its funny you should say that most people guess that is what he is, even had a lady once do a double take then say to me sorry I breed standard schnuzers and I thought he was one, I explained him to her and she said she would bet any money he has schnauzer in him either that or the poodle lab cross had just thrown a dog that look freakishly like a schnauzer

I would put money on it that he is schnauzer x. He is seriously gorgeous. What puppy farm did he come from?

I'm not 100% sure what puppy farm it was, I got him pre DOL and didnt really know anything about puppy farms wasnt till after I got him and after I joined here that I found out more about them. I'm assuming it was a big deal thou when it happened I sort of remeber the lady we got him off mentioning a fair few dogs had been taken out of there, to be 100% honest I didnt listen to everything she was saying, we were warned of how badly treated and there for badly behaved he was but I wasnt really prepared for what I saw we drove 4 hrs to get him then I decided to sit with him in the back seat on the 4hr drive home and he put him self in behind my back the whole way home needless to say it was very uncomfortable!

ETA after driving the 4 hours to see him there was no way I wasnt taking him in hindsight I probably should have thought it thru abit more as hes been a struggle from day one but in the end its worked out well he really is a nice dog!

He is beautiful, he is lucky that you have rescued him. I really feel for him given that he had to live in a tiny kennel for so long, some people have no heart or conscience!

He does appear to have a thicker coat to Chelsea.
