julzjc
Hey guys, need a bit of help. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get very strong timber glue off/out from between pads on my American staffords paws? My two monsters got into the garage, got hold of the timber glue gun and tore it up. Thank goodness they didnt like the taste! Managed to trim a few small drops of harded glue off Indie (Husky) and thought Bonnie was fine untill I saw her licking her front paws tonight, both front paws have huge lumps of glue completly filling the space inbetween her pads and absoulutly rock solid. Any suggestions atall? She will easily let me soak her feet but no idea what would be safe to use without stinging her skin. Thanks in advance guys. bedazzledx2
OMG!!!! I have had success in the past with the orange stuff you get at Bunnings to remove tar and bubble gum. Not sure how that would go with glue that's set hard. Whatever you end up using don't forget to wash the paws afterward with dog shampoo and rinse well. I think I would be having a chat to the vet. ~Shepherd~
I'd get vet advice, they would know what to use on dog skin, it is different to people skin. Maybe a vet forum or something?
lovemesideways
I would try soaking the paws in warm/hot water! Works for people skin and I don't think it will hurt your dogs paws? Edit to add, I would also be very careful about any licking or anything of the glue. Edited May 13, 2010 by lovemesideways
Golden Rules
It depends on what the glue is made from. What do you mean by timber glue? Do you mean PVA glue? Or is it a solvent based glue? I agree with the others, I think seeking vet advice is the first thing you should do but the first thing they will ask is what type of glue. If you have the tube still, it should say on it what to use for cleanup.
stormie
What sort of glue exactly? We have ether at our clinic we'd try on stuff like that - might be worth a vet visit. Will probably eventually slough off but if its causing that much irritation I'd be trying to get it off asap. Kirislin
contact the manufacturer, sometimes there's a contact number on the product. good luck that sounds bad.
tdierikx
Is there room to slip a pair of small sharp scissors between the fur and the glue? You may be able to gently trim it out... or a vet may be able to run a scalpel around the sides to gently cut it out - especially if your girl is OK with having her paws examined... T. julzjc
Thanks guys. Will take her to the vet tomorrow morning, she has managed to get her pads all seperated but there is still glue there.Has obviously pulled a couple bits out from between her pads and the skin is quite raw and moist, now deffinatly dont want to try do anything to them, so deffinatly taking her first thing in the morning. Lucky she is the biggest laid back sooky girl and doesnt mind her feet being handled, shes ticklish if anything. Pads look so tender, I feel so bad I havent been able to check on her/take her to vet today, had my hands full with our 3very sick kids(rush to hosp last night but better-ish now) and managing our 6wk old(thankfully not sick, yet). Cuddled up with my poor fur baby now, so glad she loves our vet, fingers crossed he gets the stuff off her feet. ps not entirly sure but think its the pvc glue for timber, quite rubbery(atleast the big gloopy mess on the grass was, not so for Bonnies pads). Unfortunatly I cant get the contact details, Indie didnt leave much of the tube intact, deffinatly trip to our vet in the morning, hes really good so hopefully have some idea on how to take if off and give me something to sooth her feet. Thanks again guys
~Shepherd~
Good reminder to keep the chemicals in a cupboard out of reach of dogs and kids. Lucky nothing was ingested. Hope the vet visit goes ok and your kids feel better. Its a juggle sometimes.

Longclaw
MrLC suggests massaging olive oil into the pads - work it in really well on and around the glue sites. Keep massaging for quite a while, to allow the olive oil to (hopefully!) work it's way in between the glue and skin.
HeavyPaws
My mum's Pom got super glue on her. I had a tin of pure acetone, so I used a cotton bud {the ones you stick in your ear}, dipped the cotton end in the acetone, gently dabbed the glue and held the cotton ball pressed onto the glue for about 5 seconds, then washed the area with warm water. I repeated this a few times that hour and the glue came right off without irritating her skin, because I rinsed her with water straight away. Wear gloves while doing this and shampoo the dog afterwards

julzjc
I'd be putting some paw paw ointment or something on in the meantime with a sterile cover if you have anything? Done and done, thanks chewbacca, had plenty of paw paw ointment and sterile pads in cupboard...not exactly sure how long she will leave the pads on though(lol put socks on top of them and taped them on ) guessing she will have them off as soon as I go to bed. Glue gun was "ment to be" out of reach, Indie the husky has recently(yesterday) learned how to open the door handle to the garage and the glue gun was up on the bench(1.5m high and pushed to the back wall), hes too smart for his own good sometimes.Past 3days hes also decided that when they are outside and told to "go to bed" that it is alot better idea to wait until I go back inside and then pull his bed from the laundry right up to the house door so he doesnt have to sit on the tiles and technically hes still in his bed as he was told grrrr.(unfortunatly for him Bonnie takes advantage and claims the bed as her own).So as of today he gets one bed out for Bonnie then goes back and gets the other bed and places next to hers at the back door for himself. Oh and he keeps checking the window to see if Im watching, as soon as he sees me he drops the bed and lays down on the grass oh so innocently asif hes been lying there the whole time.
