A girl i know has an Alaskan Malamute, she got the dog knowing she has no backyard and the previous owner would never have let the dog go if she knew the girl had no backyard, the dog is currently at the pound and needs to go by tonight so i though i'd make this thread to see if there was anyone out there who was interested in getting him.

His name is Shadow formerly Bear, He's 1 and a half years of age and not de-sexed, He's black and white.

Here is a picture of him, He's Located in Mt Gambier South Australia!

He's currently still in the pound she's asking $150 for him which covers pound fee's and fines.

PLEASE IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE LET ME KNOW!!

Does anyone know Shadow's breeder to contact?

Also the AM Club of Victoria has a page which sets out AM's needing new homes in all states.

The name of the person who runs this page is given, with a telephone no. OK, she's in Victoria, but may know of contacts in SA who can help.

They actually ask people to contact them:

AN EASY WAY YOU CAN ASSIST US WITH MALAMUTE RESCUE:

If you see a Malamute listed in an animal shelter that is not on our website, please email us at [email protected] or contact Sandy by phone on (no on website).

The sooner they are listed with us the more chance we have of saving them.

I'm finding out now if the previous owner knows who bred Bear/Shadow, She did say he was mistreated at some stage and she took him in, he used to be so scared he'd sit and wee himself, but he's fine now and when the previous owner had him her 3yr old kid would play with him etc he's very friendly and loving.

I don't understand how the girl can ask for money, I've said to her to give him away but she wants money for him and that's even if his life is at risk, i made this thread to try and find him a home before he gets put down!!!

Thank you so much for that site!

I hope too, Thank you so much! x

You can't seroiusly expect anyone to give money to her.

If he is rescused, and I hope he is, surely the money should go to the pound, not the irresponsible owner.

I thought, once you surrendered an animal, you have no resposibility for them and you can't receive payment as they belong to the pound now?

Some people really deserve a swift kick up the bum.

If he's in the pound, is microchipped and isn't claimed for 2 weeks then he can be sold by the pound as far as I know (that's how it happens at the pound I got Zero from). She won't ever get to see the money if they sell him. If she's going to bail him out and pay the fines then she can sell him on but there are so many mals in rescue that it would be easy for her to get "stuck" with him for a long time before someone wants to buy him from her.

If she really cared for him, she would find him a great home, regardless of if she got any money for him or not! :(

Some people are so irresponsible, nor are they worthy to own a dog...ever. Poor dog being shuffled around, belonging no-where,it should be only about the dog not her pocket. She should be paying some-one $150.00 to re-home him in a forever home.I'm over the moon to give some of mine free to the "right home".Beautiful looking dog too.

I think people should look at by-passing the person who has left him in this predicament and just contact the pound directly. You should put the pound's contact details up for people to do this.

That girl, I'm glad I don't know her.

Me too. I would have thought that it would be payment enough and then some, to know that her dog has found a loving forever home. Shame on her for putting a $ value to her dog's life - it makes it sound as though she is completely unremorseful for not being able to meet her responsibilities this dog deserved.

Hope she never owns a dog again in her lifetime. That's so shallow.

Good thinking. I googled & found this statement from the Mt Gambier Council:

The South East Animal Welfare League... is the formal “pound” to

which Council places all impounded dogs

And here's the South East Animal Welfare League of Mt Gambier's website, with contact details:

http://southeastanimalwelfare.weebly.com/

I'd guess the SEAW would tell if this 'pound' arrangement still holds.

Thank you for posting that information mita!!

The dog was priced at $300 but they've dropped it down.

They have some people interested and then they have a second option which is to have the dog with a foster carer until they have a backyard or get rid of it (in their words) and get a puppy of a more 'controllable' breed, Malamutes are NOT that hard to control once you have an understanding of the breed.. Like their high pray drive etc..

Hopefully he finds a decent home.

Thank goodness, there's possible new home....or, at least, fostercare.

Whoops! Who's 'they'? I assumed if the dog is in the pound, 'they' must be the Animal Welfare League.

I agree with Anne.....the most sensible thing to do is contact the 'pound'-AWL to find out what's happening for the dog. He's now in their hands.
