10am tomorrow the Ranger is coming over to take my official statement. He already has the cavalier owner's statement. The dog was taken to the vet and put on a course of Antibiotics due to the puncture wounds. His front foreleg has bruising to the muscle I believe.

After that they will talk to the owner and decide a course of action.

grrrr.

why the hell can owners not keep their dogs restrained?!

I had to witness a dog attack another dog this morning because the owner's stupid front gates were open (not that they were high fences anyway)..

The other dog was not seriously hurt, but did get a puncture wound.

I managed to scare the attacking dog off away from the other dog and the kids who were there (my daughter included) who were all terrified watching this occur.

Am on the phone now reporting it to council.

not happy jan!

It is so very frustrating when this sort of thing happens time and time again! People just will never learn!

I guess it is a false belief system with some people that their beloved dog would not hurt a fly, yea right!

What breed of dog is the attacking dog?

Sees Abigail licking her lips, hoping it's a Pitbull. :noidea:

The breed doesn't matter, unless you're a Pitty hater & want to get joy out of bagging the breed again. I'd laugh if it was the same breed as your dogs. :noidea:

Black Bronson - why would it change the story? We did not see the dog until it had attacked? We could not have changed our behaviour? I am just as cautious with SWFs going nutso at a fence as I am a rottie..

Me too - I'm have a rottiexdobe and the swfs going crazy at the fenceline also keep me very alert and cautious - what if they got out and attacked my pretty well behaved girl and she went back - would my dog be held responsible because she was on a lead and the swfs got out of their property and attacked?

I also had the same thing happen to me on the weekend, where I had taken my girl for a 1.5 hr leash walk and she didn't put a foot wrong, an absolute joy to walk on lead, however when passing this one particular house, there is a very dog aggressive dog that lives there and it has been out several times recently. As I was getting close to the house, I could see the front gates were open slightly, but enough to let the dog out. I stopped and could see the owners in the yard and yelled out to them to quickly shut the gate, which they promptly did just before their dog got out. It of course went balistic behind the gates, but you no what gets me, my dog probably would have a chance, but the old lady walking her old little mini foxie about 50m behind me, her dog probably would have been killed or very badly injured. I am also going to report this owner as they should no better. They have a da dog and should ensure 100% of the time that their dog will never get out of their yard without being on lead. It's pretty simple, but something a lot of owners can't seem to grasp.

Would you be willing to name the breed of dog that almost got out? Farking people yet again with their heads buried deeply in their arses! I tend to get just as annoyed at people who dont take responsibility for their small dogs getting out and possibly run the risk of getting run over, lost, stolen or attacked! :noidea: :noidea:

What about the SWF that gets out & attacks? My boy was attacked by a small dog, he bit his ear & jowls, my dog just knocked him on his back & held him down until the idiot owner came & got her dog. The attacking dog was about 30kgs smaller than my boy, yet he didb't put a mark on it, OK it would have been bruised, but my dog could have killed it in an instant if he wanted to. Guess what? The owner rang the Ranger to report my dog who was on lead, while hers wasn't & it was only because of his breed, I am sick to death of people like you.

OH & I call BS, when you said you have owned Bull breeds, your hate for them is obvious. :o

Due to a couple of newer members of DOL being so rabidly anti any Bull Breeds and blaming them for all the evils in the world today I find myself becoming increasingly HA and more and more in favour of PSL :noidea:

Abigail, out of curiosity what breed of dog is it that you have?

We know it's owners fault not the dog or breed, but irresponsible ownership is not reserved for only Bull breed owners. There are stacks of irresponsible owners of other breeds that shoot out the gate and run around the street but don't appear to attack and bite as often as Bull breeds seem to :noidea: Had the dog who attacked the Cav been a Golden Retriever for instance, the likelyhood of a GR mounting an attack I am sure would be a lesser possibility perhaps???.

Why is it a lesser possibilty that would happen? does anyone read other people posts and take it on board?

Firstly having a dog running around the street probably means it's not been well trained or looked after, which leads to all the other factors, unsocialised, not desexed, the development of DA etc... that's what makes a dog rush and dominate other dogs.

Rubbish, if the breed that had come out the gate and attacked the Cav hadn't been a Bull Breed the lynch mob wouldn't have saddled up and made an issue about the incident.

Statistics are not worth the paper they are written on as they are always biassed one way or the other. A poster previously in this thread doubted the validity of a study/statistic by saying it was "Pro-Pitbull therefor inaccurate". I think a lot of attacks(not the one on this thread) are blamed on Bull Breeds due to mis identification by the general public, they have been forcefed images of violent Bull Breeds by the media and immediatly jump to the conclusion.

As for Golden Retievers, I was chased down the road by a GR once as I walked my Whippet, it was quite frightening as he was hell bent on getting us to throw his tennis ball, all very cute and harmless but he was still a dog wandering off his property :noidea:

Have just sat through my statement with the Ranger.

Here is some more info...

It is believed the dog got out while the owner was having the fences fixed. Owner was not home, but his mother was.

They are updating their 6 foot fences at the moment.

The owner is being hit with a dog attack fine of $550.

This is the second attack by the dog. Similar attack in 2008 however it was not followed through with a statement because owner paid vet bills for the other dog.

They do not plan to declare the dog dangerous. But they want the owner to comply with fencing rules.

They do not believe it will go to court unless the owner pleads not guilty (which they do not believe the owner will do as they acknowledge that the dog had an opportunity to get out).

They don't think they will need to contact me again.

(They is the council)

What I am saying is that Bull breeds are not the only breeds allowed to run around by irresponsible owners and are not looked after properly, but do we see the same amount of attacks by other breeds in the same position???

Big difference with a menacing dog annoying you in a friendly manner, than a DA dog that wants to attack and bite???

No as they're not publicised as much. Bull breeds covers so many breeds, then there's all the cross breeds etc.. so it's way to broad to generalise, but as for percentages i don't believe they're any more likely to be aggressive than any other, i live in an area full of dogs that are always off lead and outside their property and get rushed nearly every walk and not one of them is a bull breed of any sort, in fact the most common occurence in my experience is with cattle dogs and their crosses.

Though a beautiful rednose pit did jump off his ute and come running up for cuddles.

Yes, I have experienced quite a few loose cattle dogs rushing at us with borderline aggressive behaviour. I have never encounted aggression personally with any Bull breeds or APBT's either.
