Mollie10
Oh, and the thing I said most to Grump yesterday was 'You've got dirt on your nose.' He does love a good chomp of dirt. Anouk buries her bones with her nose. She does a crap job because she doesn't dig, just shovels dirt on top of it. She ADORES mud and would squelch through it for hours if I let her. Ziggy is a bit of a princess. Doesn't like getting his feet wet

Anouk refuses to go out in the rain. Ziggy will only go out if he's pushed... I tell them they would never have made it in Ireland I wonder if we've scared the OP's friends off yet? Gotta know all the gory details.
wire
Since getting my second boy Wally, I've given up trying to keep the house clean. He believes every twig and leaf should be inside with us all. He loves to splash in the water bucket, run through as much mud he can find and get his big brother to chase him, preferably through the house All our friends love our wheatens...at a distance! They're a handful as stated. Took Murphy to see one of the oldest practasing vets (he must be getting up to 80) and he said, "a dog with a personality, how charming"! And by the way, they're great if you need your ears cleaned and have run out of buds

chuckandsteve
Should not have read this thread. Desparately want a wheaten but i'm strictly a rescue girl. My boy acts a lot like a wheaten which I love but he keeps me on my toes.

If you want some names I'm happy to PM you.

wire
Molly & Sheridan, am soooooo glad to hear your wheatens getting up to mischief :D Some people think that I'm such a bad dog owner/trainer letting them get away with murder! Their dogs never counter surf, jump around like a kangaroo and use the house as a running track! But deep down they're such good boys, I've seen it so I know it's true! And don't forget "the look". "You don't love me" look when they're being told off or not taken out....his little heart is breaking into a million pieces. They can be so dramatic sometimes ;) Edited May 11, 2010 by wire

I know exactly what you mean about the broken hearted look :D
Sheridan
Actually, it gives me the irrits a bit when I see people who own wheatens ask how to stop them jumping on people. They're wheatens.

They need a bath about once every two to three weeks. You'll also need to either learn how to style your dog's coat yourself or find a really good groomer (groomers often make them look like Schnauzers, which is totally wrong). If you are interested I can PM you some breeders' names who can give you a better idea of the time commitment for a show dog. The breed's tolerance for other dogs is excellent - they are very, very friendly so long as they are well socialised. Cats and other small furry creatures are variable. I know a lot of wheaten owners who have cats, but it depends on the individual animal's prety drive. Anouk would never tolerate cats. Ziggy had a cat in his first home, so he's more laid back around them. Both of them want to chase and kill rodents, potaroos, possums, birds of every sort. They really are the most wonderful dogs. They can be challenging, but I guess like the Beatles said "in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make". And they are THE cutest puppies in the whole world. ETA: How often you groom also depends on your dog's fur type. The Irish coat in general matts less than the big boofy English/American coat! Softer, silkier, shiny. I wish I had a photo of the Grumpy Man as a puppy. He's quite thoroughly matted at the moment (bad mum!). Grump has become more intolerant of other dogs as he's grown older but still, he gives me the long suffering 'Aren't I utterly patient?' look when Mini (aka Princess Pogo) does her greeting at the door and she lands on his back.
