Jodielass
I have checking out Premium foods as I want to Change my Labrador's diet. Please let me know which one you like best out of California Natural made by Natura- sold in Pets Paradise. they say they have no grains or by products. They have this one in Light. Turkey Turkey is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of turkey or a combination of thereof - exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails. Turkey is an excellent source of highly digestible protein. Natura uses high-quality turkey in many of our formulations. Chicken Chicken is the clean combination of flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken - exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, and entrails. Chicken is an excellent source of protein. Chicken Meal Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts of whole carcasses of chicken -- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails. Natura uses high-quality chicken meal in many of our foods as an excellent source of protein. Turkey Meal Turkey meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone derived from the parts of whole carcasses of turkey--exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails. Turkey meal is an excellent source of protein in commercial pet foods. This ingredient is very digestible and very palatable. Natura uses this ingredient in combination with fresh chicken, fresh turkey and chicken meal in some of our dog food formulas. Peas Green peas are a variable annual leguminous Eurasian vine that is cultivated for its rounded smooth or wrinkled edible seeds. Green peas are a fresh vegetable source of protein and contain a good source of vitamin A. Natura uses high-quality peas in some of our treats. Pea Fiber Pea fiber is derived from cleaned and processed pea hulls. Pea fiber is a good source of both insoluble and soluble fiber that helps support normal bowel health. Natural Flavors Natural flavors are flavor ingredients that do not contain synthetic or artificial components. In the Natura products that include "natural flavor" in the formula, the exact composition is proprietary. However, it is always made from high quality all natural ingredients, consistent with Natura's nutritional philosophy. Pumpkin Pumpkin is a rich source of alpha-carotene and beta-carotene, fiber, vitamins C and E, potassium, magnesium, and pantothenic acid. Tomatoes Tomatoes are the edible berry of the tomato plant of the nightshade family. Herring Oil (naturally preserved with mixed Tocopherols) Herring oil is the oil extracted from whole herring. Herring oil provides a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Because the herring that Natura uses is of such high quality, the herring oil helps produce healthy skin and lustrous coats. Apples A member of the rose family, the apple has a compartmented core and is thus classified as a pome fruit. Apples are an excellent source of dietary fiber. About 81% of the fiber is soluble; most of it is of a type called pectin. Apples provide both soluble and insoluble fiber, some vitamin C and beta carotene, and potassium and boron. Natura uses this nutritious fruit in its whole form to obtain all of its wholesome nutrients. Carrots Carrots are the roots of the carrot plant, and a member of the parsley family. Innova dog and cat foods contain whole fresh carrots. Potassium Chloride A chemical compound, KCl, a colorless or white, cubic, crystalline compound that closely resembles common salt (sodium chloride). It is soluble in water, alcohol, and alkalies. Potassium plays various roles in metabolism and body functions. It assists in the regulation of the acid-base balance and water balance in the blood and the body tissue. It assists in protein synthesis from amino acids and in carbohydrate metabolism. Cottage Cheese Cottage cheese is the result of separating milk or cream into curds and whey. The curds are drained and pressed to form the soft, white, spoonable cheese. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of calcium, phosphorus, protein and vitamins. Natura uses high-quality cottage cheese, straight from its retail container. The cottage cheese has only trace amounts of lactose and because of its limited inclusion in the formula, the ultimate amount of lactose in the finished product is insignificant and would not be in sufficient supply to cause an intolerance problem. Dried Chicory Root Dried Chicory Root is the dried, non-roasted root Cichorium intybus L., used as a source of inulin, as soluble, fermentable fiber. It shall contain no less than 50% inulin and no more than 13% moisture. Chicory Root is a thick-rooted blue-flowered European perennial composite herb widely grown for its roots and as a salad plant. Commonly known as a soluble fiber, the inulin derived from the Chicory Root is a fructooligosaccharide added to help maintain digestive tract health and function. Eggs Eggs are the whole of the reproductive body produced by hens. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, with naturally occurring complex combinations of amino acids. Natura uses only whole eggs in our products. Alfalfa Sprouts Alfalfa sprouts are a member of the legume family. Alfalfa sprouts are an excellent source of key nutrients, including vitamin C, iron, magnesium and manganese. Natura uses fresh, high-quality alfalfa sprouts to add these important nutrients to our foods. Minerals Minerals are inorganic substances essential for a host of vital processes within the body. AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of minerals in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with minerals. Beyond meeting these minimum requirements, all Natura products contain a complete vitamin and mineral supplement program that helps pets to thrive, not just survive. The minerals Natura uses are chelated, providing three to ten times greater assimilation than common minerals. Included in our foods are some of the following vitamins and minerals: Ascorbic Acid, Beta Carotene, Biotin, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Choline Chloride, Cobalt Carbonate, Cobalt Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Dicalcium Pantothenate, dl-Methionine, Folic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Niacin, Potassium Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin C Supplement (Sodium Ascorbate), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement (Alpha Tocopherol), Zinc Proteinate Natura adds these important vitamins and minerals, in proper balance to its foods to ensure that your pet gets all the necessary nutrients for life and good health every day. L-Carnitine Carnitine, or L-carnitine, is a vitamin-like compound made in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It is found in animal-based, not plant-based, sources of protein. L-carnitine has been used to help with fat metabolism. Vitamins Vitamins are organic compounds that function as parts of enzyme systems essential for the transmission of energy and the regulation of metabolisms of the body. AAFCO regulates minimum standard quantities of vitamins in levels that pets need to survive. All pet food manufacturers supplement their products with vitamins. Natura challenged this tradition, and developed unique manufacturing processes to create the first-ever grain free, low carbohydrate dry pet food. Removing grains and dropping carbs leads to many benefits for our beloved four-legged friends. The protein in EVO is derived from premium quality meats that are highly digestible, highly palatable and provide maximum nutrient absorption. Fresh meats provide vital nutrients like amino acids (such as lysine and taurine), essential minerals, and other key building blocks that encourage strong bones and muscles. EVO Weight Management Dry Dog Food is grain free. By removing ALL grain from the diet, EVO minimizes starch or carbohydrate intake while maximizing the concentration of protein. In fact, EVO provides high-quality protein at a level that is among the highest available anywhere. In addition, EVO also contains a source of viable, naturally occurring microorganisms and has both linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid), and omega-3 fatty acids. With 30% less fat and 20% more protein than EVO Turkey & Chicken Formula, EVO Weight Management dog food is a first-of-its-kind extreme protein dog food containing less than 11% total carbohydrates to help you reach and maintain your dog's optimum body condition. Lamb Meal Lamb meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from lamb tissues, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents except in such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices. Rice Rice, unless listed as brown rice, is the de-hulled rice kernel, without the bran -- known as white rice. Sunflower Oil (naturally preserved with mixed Tocopherols) Sunflower oil is obtained by extracting oil from sunflower seeds. Natura uses sunflower oil to provide the essential fatty acid, linoleic acid, which is important for good skin and coat health. Taurine Taurine is an essential amino acid required by cats. Meat and poultry are naturally high in taurine, so Natura foods contain high levels of this important nutrient. Taurine is also added to our cat foods to ensure cats get enough of this essential amino acid. Cats vs Dogs: While dogs can synthesize taurine in their systems, cats cannot and must have additional amounts added to their diet for proper health. Recent university research has suggested, however, that like cats, some breeds of dogs may benefit from Taurine in the diet. While California Natural has always contained ample Taurine from natural sources such as lamb meal, we have decided to supplement Taurine to ensure that all puppies receive full nutritional benefit from our products. pie
I know that EVO and California Natural are supposed to be decent but personally I wouldn't buy any foods sold by Pets Paradise, I don't want to support them in any way. To be honest I probably wouldn't buy any of those foods, I prefer Nutro, Nutrience, or Eagle Pack (although it didn't agree with my girl other people including Lab owners give it good reviews) I'm sure some lab people will be in soon to help
karly101
I feed Evo to my ferrets - and dog food to the dogs when I've got it from a friend.. It is expensive.. And it is from Pets Paradise.... I find it difficult to buy food from them but for ferrets there aren't a whole lot of choices and I want to give mine the best available.. I'd agree with above on the other brands ...also Artemis.. Paganman
Hey this is your third topic on what you should feed your lab didnt you get enough info from the first two?
mokhahouse
I have fed my lab Cali Nat chicken and rice since he was a pup. It is a good food but it does have grains, the adult version is quite a high carb content I believe. I think this may be contributing to Mokha ear problems. As far as I know the Lamb and rice is not available in Australia. It is very expensive but I have had good results with Mokha in the past. He has various food intolerances. I have also fed my other lab Innova made by the same company, on paper it looked a good food but she never had a firm poo on it even cutting back the amount fed so I have her on Eagle Pack which she has always done well on. Eagle Pack products also known as holistic selects now are well worth looking at IMO. I am transitioning Mokha off Cali Natural now as he is a bit older and hopefully can tolerate another food. My conscience has got the better of me because you can only buy Natura products from Pets Paradise or their partner business and I just dont want to support a compnay that sells kittens and pups. You could look at Artemis or Nutro too. ETA ( I have just found out that Natura has been bought out by P & G who own Iams and Eukenuba so I wonder whether the quality will stay the same, if not it will not be worth the huge price per bag.
