Few Problems With New Tibean Spaniel

Hello everyone, this is my 1st time on these forums and also my 1st pup

I got a new tibetan spaniel that is 9 weeks old. I've trained him to wee on the training pads and also a doggy toilet i built him but now he seems to think he can wee on any matt that happens to be nearby.

I've only had it for 2 nights and had to move its bed to my room for it to sleep, had it in the bathroom first but was too noisy and because i'm in a town house i can't give it the cold shoulder as i'm joined to the next downhouse and the noise will drive them mad. Would getting him a crate help him sleep easier? Or how can i get him to quiet down without "rewarding" his loud behaviour.

Another thing is i have got him heaps of chew toys, yet his favourite seems to be the stitching of his doggy bed :mad How can i encourage him not to do this? as he seems no to be responding to a simple NO! or picking him up and movie him.

He is also very clingy and yelps if i go upstairs for a few seconds or take the rubbish out, i have been putting him to sleep then doing this things at the moment.

besides these few minor problems he truly is a great puppy would just like to build his confidence as he is very timid.

I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

We have a Tibbie too and they are terrific dogs. Great nature. Perhaps, I'm biased!

I have to admit that when we got our Tibbie at 13 weeks, he was more or less toilet trained but did have a few accidents. I used a product called Urine Off to make sure that the smell was gone so he won't be tempted to think that the spot he used was a toilet stop. I also took him outside every opportunity I had and most especially when he starts sniffing around as I found that it was a sign that he was about to go to the toilet. I think Bio Zet washing powder does the trick too as it has enzymes to neutralise the smell.

The anxiety can be a challenge to deal with although your puppy is very young still and new to your home. Our Tibbie has an on leash fear aggression resulting from anxiety around other dogs when he thinks he can't take flight. With training and positive socialisation with calm dogs, he is slowly overcoming his fears and anxiety. Perhaps puppy pre-school would be something to consider for you and your puppy when he is old enough? The puppy pre-school trainer will be able to advise you and answer any questions you may have about raising your Tibbie.

I don't have any other suggestions as our Tibbie is our first dog and I am a novice in the dog world. Hopefully other more experienced forum members can advise you further.

There is also Tibetan breed section in the Breed Sub Forum. There are lovely Tibbie owners to chat to in that section.

He sounds pretty normal for a baby. Check out the tibbie threads AND the puppy socialisation and development calendars pinned at the top of this puppy problems section :) excellent.

Remember he has had litter mates and mum around and now he is in a strange environment, no 'family' etc. and he has NO idea what is expected of him. Be gentle, no 'telling off' etc. just calm and positive reactions and show him what he needs to do.The following you around thing etc. is very normal too, so is the weeing on any mat, they all look the same to him and he thinks that is what he is meant to do. Time and gentle training and LOADS of patience will benefit you both and in 12 months the 'puppy OMG!! :D ' type stuff will be a distant memory :mad:mad Enjoy it, it's not for long, get it right now and you will have 15 (hope) or more years of treasured companionship.xxxxxxx
