Dap Spray - Anyone Tried It

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have just found Dap spray is available at www.thevetshed.com.au I have heard of people using it however was not keen on getting it from the UK. The Vet Shed have it and they can send it out to me which is great. I have ordered some for my dog who gets travel sickness - has anyone used it for this and had good results? I hope it works my dog starts dribbling before we get out the driveway! Here is the link to the dap spray at Vet Shed if anyone is interested https://www.thevetshed.com.au/advanced_sear...words=dap+spray

I haven't tried it myself - but I'd be very interested to see how you go with it.

My Sasha is the same... she drools a river and her legs shake before we've made it to the end of the drive way. It's awful isn't it?

I have to say, I've been taking her on short, quick trips to fun places - and she has improved vastly... to the point where we can drive for a little while with no spews!!

nope, didn't work for travel sickness. Even tried spraying it onto a bandana and having the dog wear that for awhile before getting into the car.

Best thing was lots of short trips in the car and for longer journeys using a proper travel sickness pill. He can now go more then double previous distance before being sick and is starting to volunteer to go into the car.

Yep tried it with a rescue showing anxiety, no luck however I unplugged it because the unit got so bloody hot I was worried it was going to start a fire.

You can not import DAP from outside of Australia, Customs won't allow it.

I am not importing it - The Vet Shed are in QLD Australia. And it is not the normal dap plug in - this is different it is a spray. I have to spray 6 -8 sprays into the car before the dog gets in. I really hope that it works.

Really? That's a bugger, I wanted to try the collars and they don't seem to be available in Australia.

I have given it to one client who did see an improvement.

I use it for really stressed out dogs in our hospital (we already have the diffuser going but I spray it on wet/dry bedding edges) but it works best if you spray it around then leave it for 20 mins before placing the dog in the environment.

We have had one unit recently returned like that, and the company issued a replacement no probs. It does get warm on the top but we've never had any problems in-clinic. The diffuser should be replaced every three refills.

I have imported the refills and the bottles of spray before so you can do it. I think they had to write 'Natural Spray' on the packaging though.

I have a spare bottle of DAP spray I no longer need, just sitting here looking for a home .....

I've been buying DAP products from the UK for years...I love the stuff - or more correctly, my dogs love it!

My experiences with the spray have been very positive. Ruby is our car-sick dog and with a combination of small doses of valium and DAP spray, she's improved tremendously to the point where there has been no vomiting for quite a few years. The DAP spray is great for car travel and also for hospital stays etc as it calms the dog but you do need to repeat it frequently.

You're lucky you got it through, I have already checked with Customs prior as I really wanted to collars and many of the overseas websites say they do not ship DAP to Australia because of the Customs problem.

I've used about 3 bottles consecutively and I don't think it made a difference, but the room wasn't closed off so the pheromones could have been wafting upstairs. Have you tried Bach's Rescue Remedy, couple of drops on the tongue a few hours before travelling and apply more at regular intervals?

Don't know anything about DAP spray however you can now get medication from the vet that is especially for dogs that don't travel well ie. drool in the back of the car.

I have a Dobe boy who does this and the vet told me for years that there was nothing available..... until the other day when he told me with glee that finally there was specific medication available now!!!

Ah yes - Serenia. Which is meant to have a very high success rate. Except that our first and so far only client to try it, still ended up with a vomiting, car sick dog

I've used the Dap plug in for several years now when we have a girl in season - I have the boys together and plug it in near their area, starting about a week out from beginning of the season - they stay settled until the girls are spot on, so to go from dogs not eating to stressing and howling for about a week to dogs eating normally and only whining for the few days they are spot on ready to be mated is a great success.

The collars would be interesting to try but the spray not sure about - even the plug in takes a couple of days to really take effect.

Tried that with my boy, we did get to do an hour and half journey without vomit (usually done by a mile from home) but he did still drool copious amounts. Regular short journeys are starting to help him be a better traveller.
