Chocolate
Is it acceptable for a pregnant female to be given a monthly heartworm tab?

sandgrubber
My vet says 'monthly' heartworm can be given every two months and still interfere with the heartworm lifecycle quite efficiently. I generally avoid giving tablets in the first trimester, but don't worry much about day 45+.
WreckitWhippet
I don't, there's no Moxydectin or Ivermectin ever for my dogs and bitches.
oakway
Well when I lived in Queensland I did mine every month pregnant ones as well.
Chocolate
Thank you all for your replies. Apparently this bitch is on Heartguard Plus and the bitches owner doesn't want to risk missing it. I personally don't like giving drugs to pregnant bitches but the owner says she has always given it without problem.
mersonmalinois
I do and have never had a problem with the bitch or the whelps.
angelsun
We give daily here so may not be the same, but it's simply not worth risking missing.
Jed
We give daily here so may not be the same, but it's simply not worth risking missing. daily ones are usually dimmitrol, monthly one of the ivermectin family. I understand that the daily hw tabs now contain ivermectin which might be a worry for some collie owners. Worth checking the ingredients list if you use daily tabs
