Elbie, Hoover, Dodge & Friends!

I'm not going to make Obedience again this week. I'm not too devastated... I don't think Kuma will be either. My in-laws arrive on Friday night for the weekend, which will mostly be spent gardening, so he'll get lots of attention and work... I won't be putting him though the assessment for Bronze, but will probably come along on Assessment Night for the frivolity.

Glad you'll come to assessement! I wanted to bring Hoover along for the fun but OH says that if I bring Hoover, then I can't go and watch him and Elbie because it will be too distracting for Elbie to see Hoover at the sidelines. I feel bad having Hoover crated while we're having fun though

It's really scary that this is the last week of obedience before assessment! :)

You'll be fine! you guys are so good!

Out of interest – what's the next level for you after this one? You'll keep coming back to train with Ava won't you?

Elbie will fail silver this time around but we want him to generally do ok overall. He's actually doing well but we haven't worked as hard with him as we should have – partly because of Hoover, partly because of other stuff and so doing it a second time around will be good in terms of maturity and also his weak areas like controlled greeting/steady for pats and heeling.

Don't say that he WILL fail because he might not :) I know you don't mind either way but he looks good from what I've seen!

Unfortunately I haven't been able to do much training lately with Little Miss Stitches (who by the way is in Fort Knox today so hopefully will not be running around with her bro like an idiot) and I have also stuffed my foot so I can't walk! GRRR. Off to the physio this afternoon to see if he can fix me :)

There is no next level after the trialling class :) We don't have an assessment as such, just a runthrough of CCD or CD for practice. Once people get to a level higher than that most train by themselves or in small groups that aren't formal classes. That is a looooong way away for us  And I'll be putting my name down for agility too to hopefully start sometime next year, which I am very very excited about! As long as I can walk properly first

Hi All. Loving the photos.

Thought I would add one of my very deprived dog sleeping.....

Zbed.jpg

KTB and Wuffles - good luck with the obedience. I was reading in another thread about the 9months, no brain thing, and think Ziggy is still at that stage. It will be nice when he finally gets some focus. Love Hoover's ears.

KA travel sounds horrendous. I am in Sydney for 2 days, left on the red eye this morning so a bit tired. I have imported my mum to housesit/dogsit/catsit for a few days. Apparently my little doggy cried for 30minutes when I left this morning (and my cat went "oh good, the bedroom door is open and that bed recently vacated is warm so i'll pop in there).

Clastic, hope that paint comes out. Have you had any comments out in public??

lilli_star that is seriously impressive work. Reminds me of the weekend I had to work, Ziggy had destroyed his outside bed (millions of pieces of foam in the backyard, some of which I am still cleaning up this day) and one of the neighbours was concerned that something terrible had happened because of the mess in the backyard and the dog was barking a bit! Obviously not a dog owner!

Ruby's handiwork looked a lot worse than it actually was, thank goodness. Those rope balls from Petbarn contain A LOT of stuffing! I was just so relieved when I found the squeaker! :) It does look like she has a lot of toys doesn't it...not that the little bugger plays with them now. She'll grab Cow when she wants to do zoomies or if I say to her "Where's Cow? Fetch Cow!". The stripey toy is one of those water bottle crocodile things that she'll occasionally run around with, and the Busy Buddy Bone was really only a hit for the first couple of days, but she was munching away on the treats last week- just no interest when there's no treats :D

Ruby is obviously in destructo dog mode- here's what she destroyed today

Then she's the picture of innocence.

KTB, are Hoover's ears still upright? ;)

I feel so sad for these two naughty border collie x puppies. 1.5m fences. I'm 1.5 metres high! Wow. I can't imagine them jumping over fences that high!

And what was Elbie pointing at? I can only imagine it was Hoover's ears behind the bush!

:D No, he was pointing at the OH holding Elbie's favourite frisbee. He loves his frisbee even more than he loves balls. The sad thing? We can't get Hoover to play fetch. He has little interest in chasing a ball!

betsy: is that a sheepskin rug? Gorgeous photo and Ziggy looks very comfortable.

lilli_star: Roo does indeed look innocent for a destructo dog, but then again, look at Hoover ;) Every time we turn around he's dug another (admittedly shallow) hole. He hasn't dug anything big lately but he has been a bit diggy still.

We had planned to go to Bredbo to see the sheepdog trials but that was when we thought it was 45 minute away from Canberra. Apparently it's 1.5 hours away. Hmmm.

ETA: Poor Elbie's got Hoover sleeping on his legs. He's going to have bad pins and needles when he wakes up!

lilli_star it's funny you should ask about Hoover's ears. I was wondering myself if his ears would still be up but they were up when I got home from work today :)

We had a bit of an emergency overnight

Ava spewed... and spewed... and spewed... 6 times overnight! And had diarrhea :walkdog: So off to the emergency vet we toddled at 4am (two more spews in the car on the way). Thankfully the vet was convinced it is gastro rather than an obstruction, but we need to keep an eye on her. Poor little poppet is very sad and sleepy. And my wallet is looking much, much lighter than it was yesterday........

Thanks guys, she is very sleepy but seems to be doing ok. She has kept down two small drinks of water  and is snoozing away quite peacefully. I'm staying home with her until lunch to make sure she is alright. Thankfully my boss has a spoiled staffy so he is very understanding.

Satch thinks it's great, he got a rawhide when he got chucked outside by himself at 4am and now he gets to sleep inside for half the day :walkdog:

So glad she's ok. It's always very stressful when our doggies are feeling poorly. Ava must have been exhausted after all that nausea/heaving. Give her a hug for me. Elbie always comes back for cuddles after he has just thrown up even though OH calls him Puke Breath

Hehe  Ava had a tiny bit of boiled chicken and rice around 7pm which is still in her belly at the moment... we are just hoping it stays that way. She still isn't looking great, but gobbled up the food so please cross your fingers for us that the worst is over. Poor little munchkin

Well good to hear. I'm sure if she was still feeling awful she wouldn't be interested in food at all! So fingers crossed! Night spewing (as someone mentioned earlier I think!) is the worse too - must've been awful. I truly don't know what I'd do!

Good grief - she probably picked something up at the vets - seeing as how I imagine she hasn't been out and about much the past few days. The last thing you want to be doing with stitches in your tummy is heaving!

One of my park friends recommended to me something called Peptosyl. Its not really for vomiting, but is good for diarrhoea. Once at the park Max did a, shall we say, sloppy one - and this guy took us back to their place to give Max some of this Peptosyl. Poor Max. We got to their house where there were four dogs... so exciting... a new house.. so many smells... so many dogs... new people!!!! My park friend's wife grabbed Max, my park friend held him while his wife used a syringe (not the needle) to squirt it down his throat. The look on his face was priceless.... 'what the hell was that? that's okay.. do it again if you have to...I'm just so happy to be here...!!!!!!'

But its useful to have that kind of stuff around the house.

In lieu of any new photos to add (I assure you all Max is getting handsomer by the day... just my photography skills are not improving. I swear before getting a puppy, new owners should be made to do a photography course, and dancing lessons) here is one from the early days...
