minxy
I wonder how they managed to gain access to the Breeders Community Thread, when us Mere Mortal Dog Owners have no such priviledge (or curse, depending on your perspective.)Oh well... Hope all the Canberra puppies are staying as warm and dry as possible in this miserable weather! One bonus is that our tank will be full again (after Kuma's auto waterer popped off the tap the other day and drained half the tank :D ) Edited coz my emoticons went haywire! I think anyone can start their own thread (and then continue to post in their own thread) but only breeders can reply.
KumaAkita
I think anyone can start their own thread (and then continue to post in their own thread) but only breeders can reply. Ah huh... that would make sense then. Oh and Foxiboy - we often end up wetter than Kuma when we wash him. I can highly recommend the hydrowash at Pet Stock down in Fyshwick. We just bought a chain collar and attach him to it... takes us about 30 mins for the big boofer, so I reckon that Ike would be done in half that. The best bit? They mop the floor afterwards :D

KumaAkita
humm i think i might take that up... oh just outta curiosity.... what type of collar/ lead do you use for kuma? For every day use, Kuma has an Ezydog Neo Collar (45mm wide) and run him on an Ezydog Soft Trainer leash. We use an Ezydog Checkmate Limited Slip Collar on him when we walk, but use a BlackDog Infin8 Halter for everyday walks (in conjunction with his checkmate collar). Because he's a big boofer, I feel I have more control with a halter, but like to take it off as a reward for good walking, and in which instance I need a limited slip collar so he doesn't back out of it. Ezydog were really awesome to deal with and I ordered their stuff over the phone. It was all expressed posted to me and CHEAP. The two collars and lead were <$55 delivered. Max#1
Some serious head-tilting action... He keeps looking to the door like 'come on then'. The quality is really bad - I must've done something to the settings on my camera....

Clastic
Really random but... Mars is finally eating veges and liking it!! Woo hoo!!! A tad excited.. he used to be such a picky eater and used to think vegetables were poison and kibble too, tonight he had a mix of rice, sardines and bok choy and even though he left the bok choy until last he finished it all off! lilli_star
KA, great pic of Kuma. He has such a sweet face :D wuffles- I am sure you'll be fine. You have seemed so calm whenever you've written about your wedding...then again, that may have been when it wasn't just 10 days away! Clastic, I haven't really tried Ruby with vegetables. She's tried apple and liked it, but ignored carrot when I gave it to her (fair enough really ). I was having a few Clinkers with a cup of tea last night and she came over and put her head on my arm and looked at me with such pleading eyes! Sorry, Roo, not for you! It rained all day here today Not fun for teaching little kids- I was marking a book and a boy came up to me and said "I just want to go for a run" and I said "Well, sorry buddy, but it's pouring rain outside, AND we're in the middle of Maths..." Thankfully Roo's palace survived the rain too. Miss Roo was waiting for me when I came home late. She was wet, but not as wet as yesterday, so I'm assuming she spent most of the time it rained in her shed. I had enough time to give her a shank bone (and supervise her eating it of course :D ) and then left her with the leftover 4 Legs balls and a pig's ear before going to another meeting. I'm pretty sure the pigs ear was crunched up before I'd locked the gate ;)

koalathebear
KTB - Yep, I have windows movie maker, I've taken out bits I don't want in it but haven't found how to change the speed. Maybe I just need to open my eyes... The speed adjuster is in the edit tab: And yes, I can see how unwise it was to come to a purebred dog forum and ask for a Peekapom but I suspect that the answers received are hardly going to send the person into the arms of a registered breeder I've seen other threads, better handled where the person was dissuaded from a Labradoodle and ended up buying a Schnauzer. KA: Hope the tank is full again! When we went to visit Mama Koala today, the dogs still had access to the kitchen via the dog door. When we got home, they were very dry - clearly our tough working dogs had elected to stay inside in the kitchen rather than hang out in the yard. Max#1: gorgeous video of Max. How did you manage to teach him the head tilt? Is it cued? Hoover has a natural head tilt when he hears anything strange and new but we haven't cued it yet. Clastic: That's great news - and how very multicultural of Mars to be eating bok choy instead of your garden variety Western vegies. I laughed once when I was in Woolworths and they had either a wombuck or a bok choy and they had labelled it: "Chinese vegetable" as if there was only One Type of Chinese Vegetable in the Whole World. We've also bought Baby Bok Choy, a name which OH finds somewhat hilarious and he'll walk around muttering: "Bok choy, baby." you mean its already been a year since you had elbie? wow, congrats but oh my god time goes fast! I remember his honking video (I love it!).. Ah the . That still makes me laugh. OH has actually been teaching Elbie to honk on cue, which is hilarious. The funny thing is that Elbie thinks that he's supposed to be lying on his side to honk so at present, he only honks when he's lying on the ground as though he's dead. lilli_star: I haven't tried my two with carrot yet except in the cake so will see how they go I would love to get them pigs ears but I am still traumatised by how farty Elbie was when we had a pigs ear, so am too scared to try again cleoj: thank you. You would not believe how many people laugh at Elbie's funny expressions. He and Hoover have such contrasting personalities. Also, tonight I've started teaching Elbie that paw to foot trick you showed us. He's not as elegant as Shandy because sometimes he gets my leg instead of my foot but he appears to understand what the objective is. Current efforts are . Hoover's version is hilarious and ends with him collapsing on my foot Edited February 16, 2011 by koalathebear

Roo was a bit stinky when we drove to my brother's on the weekend- I think it was the 4 Legs balls. Anyway, the last of them were eaten tonight. Have you tried your doglets with a deer ear? Roo loves those too (they're very much 'sometimes' treats though )
ravenau1
KTB: Love the birthday cake! . That puzzle is fantastic!! Where did you have it made? (if you don't mind my asking). KumaAkita: Awww! I love that pic of Kuma, he's such a gorgeous guy! wuffles: A week and a half! How exciting! I loved my weddings such fun! Max#1: Love a good head tilt! I've often wondered why they do it though. lilli_star: I'd rather run than do math too I'm not looking forward to winter here, we really need to get something sorted as to a waterproof area (other than the garden shed we use as a kennel) outside for Astrid. At the moment we have plenty of shade but it's not waterproof! clastic: Great bows!! That looks sooo good! How did you teach that? Things are cruising along quite well here, though I am having some trouble with teaching Astrid a 'stand' from a sit or a drop. She will drop from a stand or a sit, and sit from a stand or a drop but I can't seem to get her to understand 'stand'. I can lure her to a stand but I just can't seem to make her understand. Not sure what I am doing wrong? Piccie time! Here's a couple of shots I took on Sunday of Astrid playing with a Portuguese Water Dog Poolside bitey face Wrestling! And I love this one, there's a Dobe under there somewhere In other news, we have been discussing the possibility of adding doggie number 2 to the family Edited February 16, 2011 by ravenau1

Roo loves those too (they're very much 'sometimes' treats though Nope. Haven't tried it yet - will take a look in Pet Barn. The monsters are greedy gutses and are guaranteed to love them ravenau1: those photos are gorgeous and the one with Astrid hidden except for a dobe paw is hilarious!!! The puzzle is a custom puzzle from The Puzzle Castle in the US. You send a photo, tell them how many pieces and they send you the puzzle quite quickly. We had a puzzle made there once for my mother-in-law and Panda Puzzle here is also a custom puzzle from the same place. Incidentally - that thread has photos of my OH's LEGO Millennium Falcon Things are cruising along quite well here, though I am having some trouble with teaching Astrid a 'stand' from a sit or a drop. She will drop from a stand or a sit, and sit from a stand or a drop but I can't seem to get her to understand 'stand'. I can lure her to a stand but I just can't seem to make her understand. Not sure what I am doing wrong? Stand is really, really hard. Try the tips here. We were able to make Elbie stand but his issue was that he always took a few steps forward. Once he stood to a voice cue, I tried the one where I sit in a chair and he sits before me and I make him stand from a sit. It took us a long time though just to make him stand on cue so to be honest, I'd work on that first even if Astrid's taking a few steps forward. Keep luring her - she'll get it in the end. . I'm still luring Hoover with his stands although I'm able to tell him to 'wait' and he will hold the stand position - which is progress. Have you tried teaching her 'touch' with the nose and 'paw' with the paw yet? That's quite a fun one for them and relatively easy and we've been able to turn it into the little tap tap tap routine in the post higher up In other news, we have been discussing the possibility of adding doggie number 2 to the family Ooooooooooh - that is exciting. Another dobe? Learn from my suffering - don't ask for advice about it on DOL If I'd listened to this thread, Hoover would never have joined our pack! The thing is in that thread, I wasn't even asking people if I should get a second puppy, I was just asking about socialisation periods. Clastic
Thanks for the image KTB, I will test it out when I get home this arvo Speaking of chinese vegetables, we picked up a recipe pamphlet from the markets last week and there is a column on the side that tells you what fruit & veges are in season - so it lists like apple, beetroot, apples etc etc.. then the last one they put on there is 'Asian Vegetables', I can almost imagine someone going out and trying to find this so called 'Asian Vegetable' but having no luck. ravenau1 - Great pics, that last one is so funny! ooooooh a 2nd pup, very exciting and as KTB has already said.. don't ask DOL about it!!! Oh lilli_star, I hate when they come up and put their head on you and just stare... it makes me feel so bad.. and they're so darn cute when they do it! Mars has learnt to do it when I'm having dessert or something on the couch, its very hard to ignore him....... Well OH is back at work today so the pups are outside at his brother's place, they're gonna be very very wet puppies when we pick them up this afternoon but atleast they're having fun running around in the yard and rolling around getting bindis stuck to their fur.. yay.. Have a good day everyone and stay dry!
