koalathebear
CleoJ - OH and I are always keen to try new places. Is Master So's at Kippax open on New Year's Day? Also, Kippax is even closer to us than Jamison or Prince's Palace. Betsy - I think Ziggy is an excellent model. He always looks so happy! With our two, they will do anything for food so a treat above the camera will make them stare like mesmerised zombies into the lens ...
lilli_star
Finally got the pics off my camera of Christmas and thought I'd share a few Ruby's first swim in the pool Her 2nd (or maybe 3rd) swim in a dam- and boy, was she ever stinky afterwards! Ruby and her mama dog The crew (Ruby, her mama dog, and my s-i-l's father's Lab boy at the back). Ruby would not smile for any of these!

ravenau1
lilli_star: I found an online tutorial for the collar and lead a while ago, found some supplies then dusted off my old sewing machine. It's made with ribbon stitched onto webbing, I'm going to try making a fabric covered one also at some point. Fantastic pictures! Has Ruby always liked swimming? wizzle:Thanks! Is Genevieve more attached to your OH than to you? I just ask because Astrid will patrol a door if I'm on the other side of it. It's not like she ignores my OH or anything, but her main attachment seems to be to me We've been getting OH to feed her etc but it doesn't seem to be making much difference. Your ultrasound dream, that's scary! betsy: Oh, a DSLR, how exciting! I'd love a fancy camera but I can barely handle the simple one we have The pics look good, is it hard to use? KTB:Took me about half an hour I guess, but I had to stop in the middle because my sewing machine temporarily went *pfft!* luckily it was simple to fix as it's from the early 70's :D Sounds like Hoover and Elbie had fun at the markets and store! Can't wait until we can get Astrid out and about properly. We take her for a car ride every day and a 'carry' (we walk, she's carried) but we are looking forward to being able to walk her. KumaAkita: Akita body slam!! Ouch! Hope your OH isn't too sore today. Here is my Vampire-Dobe! I was taking some pics of her and caught this just as she was closing her mouth after a bark. Love the lil teeth poking out
lilli_star
Here is my Vampire-Dobe! I was taking some pics of her and caught this just as she was closing her mouth after a bark. Love the lil teeth poking out I had to look carefully for her itty bitty teeth! Ruby has only been swimming a few times- all at my brother's place since he has creeks and dams (all very full at the moment. In fact, some of his dams have holes in them that will need to be patched up after a big storm they had a few weeks ago. Made a huge mess- lots of fences need to be fixed/replaced and are covered in debris), but this was the first time she has been swimming in a pool. Thankfully my brother and sister in law are pretty easy going about everything- I'm sure a lot of people would not appreciate dogs in their pool I laughed so much at my sil's dad's dog though- he jumped into the pool, did a couple of laps, and then got out again! My sil's sister has a Cav that also came for Christmas. Her kids put the dog in the pool and she was so lady-like as she did her lap before getting out again :D It made me think of Miss G, Wizzle. It's been a warm day here today. I went and did some shopping in the next town, but didn't see much that caught my fancy, so came home again. Hope you're all having a good day
koalathebear
lilli_star: such cute photos of Ruby and her friends. She is so cute with that doleful face of hers I do think black labs are my favourite even though chocolate labs seem to be awfully trendy of late! She looks like a natural in water - sooooo sleek! ravenau1: Love Vampire Dobe! Not quite the same, but here was Elbie showing his teeth KA - have broken the news to OH that doggies can't come to yum cha on Saturday. He is resigned to this fact :D

lilli_star
Hee hee! Looks like they all had a great time Ruby has just come in after having a big play with her best dog friend from next door. They play just like Ava and Razzle did in the first video- only a lot more pushing and shoving goes on
wuffles
lilli_star: Awwww, I love the one of the tired dogs conked out on the pavers dandybrush: Great videos. You are one of the first people to capture Satch in full play mode on video!!! Here are some of my pics. I had so many to go through... most of them just blurs of white and merle fur... betsy
I loved the vids of wuffles and dandybrush pooches. Looks like they had fun. I always find it interesting to watch how rough some dogs are when playing. My boy can be very rough but not all dogs are like that! Boy Satch is big! What is everyone planning to do tomorrow night? I have friends coming to stay. I am hoping I can successfully pop Ziggy in his soft crate (one of my visitors is not a dog fan). Planning a big walk in the morning to tire him out before work. Then I think the heat will zap the rest of his energy. Ravenau - I think it will take me ages to work out the camera. But at least there are a number of automatic settings! I haven't had it out today as I was re-oiling the deck in between working. Lilli-star - Miss Roo is certainly a social butterfly. I was feeling a bit envious of her in the pool though - nice pool! Hope all those in wet areas are ok! Oh, and an early Happy New Year for tomorrow night. (I think I will be busy cleaning the house and cooking for my guests tomorrow - may only get to lurk!) Cleo's Corgwyn
Great pics everyone - Ruby swimming and with her rellies, the adorable little vampire dobe, and Ava, Satch and Raz having such a great time. For anyone who doesn't frequent loldogs, I wanted to share a couple of recent one that reminded me of dogs on here; this one reminded me of Ava's markings and this one reminded me of Elbies' worried look Shandy is a tired little corgi, as we had a trialling class tonight, so she finally had a decent training session, and got to have a big run around with a bunch of her doggy friends! wuffles
Awww, white heads and spotty ears are the best :D CleoJ it's a bit sad but I wish I had a trialling class last night Ava is missing the classes (Satch isn't) and it's hard to motivate myself to do training while I'm on holidays! koalathebear
Loved the footage of Raz, Ava and Satch. The comments about dogs playing is interesting to me. Being relatively new to dog ownership, I hadn't really watched dogs playing together before. For me, it was difficult to know what was play and what was aggression. Especially as Elbie's quite shy around strange dogs. Watching Elbie and Hoover playing though - they spin, they leap, they prance, they could play bitey face for ages ... Sometimes with all the growling and biting they sound like they're killing each other but then I turn around and they're both fast asleep against one another. Hoover has a favourite thing where when Elbie's sitting in the grass chilling out, Hoover will get into his Kelpie crouch and slowly make his way up the stairs in a crouch as if he thinks Elbie can't see him if he moves slowly. When he gets close enough, he pounces and then the two of them run around the yard like lunatics. I can't believe how fast they are with their circles and twirling. Neither will play the same way with other dogs as they play with each other though. betsy - good luck with Ziggy. It's always tricky when non-doggy people come to visit. My brother loves dogs but is horribly allergic so can't visit much anymore even when loaded up with antihistamines. I have a cousin who is a bit afraid of dogs so we have to keep the doggies back... cleoj: Haha. Yes, very reminiscent of poor Elbie. I too have been missing obedience classes, mainly because I worry the doggies are getting bored. We've been taking them for their mealtimes on a walk to the local oval to do some obedience work there and running around. It seems to make them happy. I bought a target stick online the other day and OH was horrified because he said if I'd just told him, he could have made one for me instead of buying a stick with a ball on the end of it from an etailer ... :D Elbie is perfect with the target stick although he will go out of his way to find it and nudge it with his nose. Hoover is so cute with it because he realises he's supposed to touch it with his nose, but sometimes he can't resist the temptation to try to eat the ball. Hoover has two favourite toys - monkey and orca. At every opportunity, Hoover will run into the bedroom to retrieve either monkey or orca, run down the corridor, down the stairs and into the entrance area where he will plonk himself on the ground and play with orca or monkey. In the mornings when I hear scampering, I blearily ask OH: "Is that Hoover with monkey again?" Anyway here is Orca: It looks like we are subjecting him to hideous torture but what happened was the other night, Hoover threw up in his crate and we suspect he may have got a bit onto Orca, so just in case, we tossed Orca through the washing machine and then he had to be dried ... Poor Orca, he looks a bit distressed. Edited December 31, 2010 by koalathebear
lilli_star
Ruby has Orca too...unfortunately, after the other night, he is now down one flipper She chewed it almost off, so I cut it off and threw it away.
koalathebear
Poor Orca! Today is soooooooooooooooo hot. Both doggies were given baths. Both doggies were very unimpressed.
wuffles
We went to the beach today! Dogs had lots of fun. We found one that didn't have huge "NO DOGS ON BEACH" signs everywhere, they both had a bit of a paddle. Satchy is scared of the waves so it's hilarious watching him run into the water then run out again every time a wave comes :D THEN we went to Nudgee Beach (more mudflats than beach) where they had an offleash swim with other doggies. There was even a bulldog there that looked so cute but wrong when swimming
Max#1
Hey everyone! Have been reading from time to time and it sounds like everyone is having a nice holiday. koalathebear
Hey everyone! Have been reading from time to time and it sounds like everyone is having a nice holiday. Except for the penguins..(or should I say orcas?). Hmmm... anyhow - just wanted to say happy new year! I was just thinking of you today and how we 'met'. I met you back in August when you posted to Elbie's herding thread. betsy and dandybrush I met here on the Elbie thread. CleoJ I met when we first went to enrol Elbie at obedience class. I met KumaAkita when I asked about moving house with puppy. I met wuffles on my thread in which I vented my frustration about US dog owners criticising me for leaving Elbie alone in the yard because they felt that dogs owners should never be left alone in the yard ... I cannot remember the original threads where I 'met' wizzle, Clastic, lilli_star, ravenau1, Niques and minxy! :D I think I saw you around the traps on various threads. Thank you to all for being so wonderful! It's been great sharing stories, photos and rueful experiences here on DOL whether Purely Positive or not so much I'll see you all in the new year. For me, 2010 was a very variable year. I'll always remember it as the year that we lost my dear Papa Koala - I will always miss him. There were also many good things, we got puppy #1 and puppy #2. We bought our first house. I was able to spend a lot of quality time with family and I've met some really lovely people this year. Elbie and Hoover are barking at the fireworks, so we've shut them back inside - can anyone ever desensitise their dogs to fireworks? Hoover keeps falling asleep like this: Which is better than this: I've almost rolled over the poor thing on more than one occasion! ETA: Ooops. What I meant to say was - Happy New Year!! Niques
Ahh, I have neglected to post in this thread recently. Much to catch up on, although I have been lurking. I love all the Christmas photos and updates. Shall have to pull James' off the camera eventually. Very impressed to see Elbie and Hoover's killer whale still intact. I'm pretty sure James' lasted an hour...tops. Although the hollow, inside out fur hung around much longer. Speaking of shredded toy parts, I found an elephant ear (and Kong Wubba) behind the couch today :D James is exceedingly attached to his Christmas raccoon. He chewed its ears off on Christmas Day but now just joyfully carries it around. There's a tear in Mr Raccoon's arse and yet, a week later, the evil puppy has (miraculously) not pulled any stuffing out If that's not love, I don't know what is Wishing everyone a happy New Year!!
