lilli_star
Hi all. Not a good night last night- Roo was up several times during the night with diarrhoea. I went back to bed at 2am, but took awhile to fall asleep because I thought I might have to take her out again. Had to go on an excursion with some kids from school today and fell asleep on the bus on the way home! The boss thought it was hilarious! (so did the kids apparently). Roo seems better tonight, but I haven't fed her much just in case. KTB I saw your Kong wobbler in Petbarn yesterday- it was $45!!!!! Bet Mr KTB didn't pay that much Hate how Aus retailers jack up their prices to more than twice what they should be. From a teacher point of view, stuff like stickers can be more than triple what they cost in the States! Ahem. Rant over. Should just buy stuff direct from the States or Canada. Roo is awake, so better take her out. Hoping for no diarrhoea...
KumaAkita
Oh lilli_star... hugs to you and Roo. Least you didn't fall asleep in front of the class while you should have been sleeping. I always fall asleep in vehicles and often find it hard to stay awake...
Niques
Poor Roo, and you as well, LS! I hope she's all better now. And you get a good night's sleep! Oh lilli_star... hugs to you and Roo. Least you didn't fall asleep in front of the class while you should have been sleeping. I always fall asleep in vehicles and often find it hard to stay awake... I reread that several times and kept seeing "I always fall asleep in front of vehicles...". Couldn't quite work out how you're still with us! Kuma's kennel looks very cosy! What's the bet he still pulls the mattress out How have Elbie and Hoover been today, KTB? Edited October 14, 2010 by Niques
betsy
lilli_star - I hope Ruby settles soon. Its very hard work cleaning up and toiletting them with the runs! I'm going to attempt to post some photobucket photos (for wuffles). I'm not sure whether it will work... Ziggy on the first day home (8 weeks, so sweet, how naive I was I thought that was his true temperament and he was going to be one of those gentle souls..) Ziggy about 10 weeks With his favourite (outside) zoomie toy With his favourite (inside) toy (for now) - Tough turtle Oh, we often have trouble with obedience class too. Ziggy gets very hyperactive and is very food motivated (read distracted/obsessed). We managed to pass (i'm sure on attendance rate more than anything). The last class was a games and pizza night. I was unprepared, most people left their dogs in cars/crates for the pizza at the end. As we were going up to accept our 'pass' certificate, I had quick work to steer Ziggy's tongue away from the plate of lemon slice that someone had so kindly brought......Pretty sure it was left untouched after that

koalathebear
lilli_star: So sorry to hear about Roo. When Elbie gets runny poo we give him rice and chicken and that usually sorts him out. I hope Ruby feels better soon. I know what you mean about being up all night for your dog and then having people think it's hilarious that you're so dog-devoted ... OH definitely didn't pay that much for the Kong Wobbler in Canada. It's like how the Tuffie toy range here is much less than overseas. Ah well .. Niques: those CleanRun toys look very cool. Will definitely be picking up some prezzies for the two monsters from there. The story of Hachi is sooooooooo sad - I hate that when he died, they discovered he had worms and was all diseased and neglected. Poor, poor Hachi. As to hyperactive tags ... OH took Hoover to the vet this morning and they all adored him. The vet's nurse then proceeded to describe Elbie as "a nutter". She was the one that always wound him up and drove him nuts! He is a bit nuts but that's why I love him. KumaAkita: I love the kennel! Those black kongs always look a bit scary to me though ... I wonder why they have to make them so black. betsy: thanks so much for sharing photos of ziggy. So cute! In the first photo, he looks like a miniature Bernese Mountain Dog. Some photos coming up ... koalathebear
Lack of sleep made me fret a lot about my two monsters today but they seemed to be getting more accustomed to one another today. The danger is that they'll become too attached to one another and not pay attention to us! Elbie seems to have taken his bed back but Hoover hates the large travel crate that we bought him and has instead taken possession of Elbie's metal crate. Hoover unfurls his Yoda Ears and prepares to taxi down the runway ... Elbie contemplates the strange new creature that has entered his world and is competing with him even in the wonky ears stake OH says Hoover's just a puppy and not an Evil Mastermind, but I'm not convinced ... "If I concentrate really hard, my ears will stand up." Hoover and Elbie smile for the camera Hoover contemplates world domination Still contemplating world domination ... koalathebear
Ears stand-off Elbie: "I can make my ears stand higher than you!" Hoover: "Yeah? We'll see about that!" One solution is to gnaw the opponent's ears off Hoover still contemplating world domination He's definitely got my OH fooled
Clastic
Looks like they're getting along well KTB! Loving their ears! Well, it was Pepper's first obedience class today.. I took Mars so its OH's job with little Pepper. From what I could see with my blurry vision from a distance she did quite well! OH was very happy with her, she sat well, was focussed, dropped and learnt stand. Loose leash walking was a bit difficult though, she was focussed on the treat bag for the first few steps then realised that there were so many other doggies walking around too!! Pepper also had fun meeting other doggies, rather submissive if they ran up to her and say hi.. she'd just roll over and let them sniff her, but she was quite confident to run up to the doggies and sniff them.. our little odd ball, but she had fun and that was the main thing! ETA: BTW Canberrans... Flash flood warning for the ACT region tonight. Rain expected from 9:00 pm, snow expected on Saturday morning. Awesome!!! (take care!) There sure has been a lot of rain recently.. our clam shell is now half full and the weeds are the size of small trees now. I'm actually very happy the rain has eased off for a day, it was pouring down last night which woke me and all I could think of was standing out in the cold wet grounds of BDOC... koalathebear
I came in here to catch up with the latest on Elbie and I find he has a new brother Congrats on the new additon, he looks absolutley gorgeous! They are going to have so much fun together! Thank you. Neither Elbie nor OH and I quite know what's hit us. I have no idea how you manage with four dogs - I just couldn't do it!!! Well, it was Pepper's first obedience class today.. I took Mars so its OH's job with little Pepper. From what I could see with my blurry vision from a distance she did quite well! Excellent! So glad she had a good time and she's performing well. Did OH enjoy the class or was he frustrated? My OH used to be a bit ho hum about it all but he likes the instructors now and he's started chatting to the other handlers so I think he likes it better than he used to. ETA: I mean apart from being happy with Pepper, did he like being the handler, the class format/instructors/other dogs etc. I hope you can bring her one Sunday for a play in the off-lead area. Do you think BDOC offlead would be safe for Hoover? His second set of vaccinations will keep in next week or so. I made some melting moments tonight for Hoover's Debut on Saturday morning but they were a bit of a failure. Please forgive me in advance. Poor, poor Hachi. I'm so not watching the end of the movie then! KumaAkita: I love the kennel! Those black kongs always look a bit scary to me though ... I wonder why they have to make them so black. The OH made the kennel... he's a wee bit handy, bless him Kuma's not so sure about the kong. I reckon he'll work it out one day. Hoover unfurls his Yoda Ears and prepares to taxi down the runway ... Ok, so the rain arrived at 4:30 am this morning, not 9:00 pm last night as BOM predicted. But it's miserable! hmmmm... it's going to mushy at BDOC now! I hope you can bring her one Sunday for a play in the off-lead area. Do you think BDOC offlead would be safe for Hoover? His second set of vaccinations will keep in next week or so. I reckon it would be ok. If you wait until most people have cleared off, and played only with a small group of dogs, he should be ok. Probably best to meet some of the other dogs on neutral territory... I've left Kuma inside today, it is too wet for him to be out all day - he'd get super wet. He was all cozy in his bed this morning... he loves it! He has tried to get it out of the kennel, but it's wedged in pretty tight.

Yep. We were out at 5:30 and got soaked through. oh well! the OH will be quiet at work today (he works in construction sales - no sites will be open today) and will pop home a couple of times to take him out for a wizz. koalathebear
KumaAkita: Don't worry - that's the real-life Hachi. In the movie, I believe they just make Hachi look kind of old and sad-eyed. From memory, there's also a touching flashback montage. I think your OH could make a fortune making Dog Furniture for dog owners! Does he feel like building ramps and and a backyard obstacle course? re BDOC: I figure that all the dogs there have been vaccinated and so it should be safe for him to play there rather than at a park or a dog park. I will ponder it for a future date, this Sunday is likely to be a giant, squishy pit of mud and poo. I have no waterproof shoes .. I bought some gum boots a while back but I realised later that they're too tall and my legs are too stumpy so when I wear them I can't bend my knees or sit down etc. wuffles: I hope you feel better soon. This is foul weather for being ill although it's probably nice to be inside and tucked under your doona when it's raining. Toilet-training Hoover has definitely been challenging with the wet weather this week. We don't want to use puppy pads so it's out there, standing in the rain with dog. It used to take up to 40 minutes but he's getting better now and will actually even ask to be let out sometimes. We can't bring an umbrella because we need to keep moving him back to Poo Corner. He's been pretty good - just two accidents this morning (he was playing and forgot) ... the other one was we snuck him into the office to say hi to some people here and he wee'd all over OH ;) Last night, we had another Panic Poo Incident so have moved his crate next to our bed because he is quiet then. We will have to feed the doggies earlier and no one gets to sleep until Hoover has done his number 2's ... There was so much laundry and cleaning up to do this morning to deal with the aftermath of the Panic Poo Incident - plus we had to bathe the poor puppy all over again because he ended up being Poover instead of Hoover. He was very well-behaved for his bath though and stood still. He's also very well-behaved in the car, which is surprising given that he grew up on a farm and had no car exposure until his Long, Long Journey to Canberra. Elbie's still wary of the intruder but he has been such a good boy - sleeping quietly through the night even though Hoover was very noisy with his crying last night and doing all of his toileting promptly, going to his crate obediently ... I hope he mans up soon though and kicks Hoover out of the dog bed instead of just looking very sad and slinking away ... I made some melting moments tonight for Hoover's Debut on Saturday morning but they were a bit of a failure. Please forgive me in advance. OH actually enjoyed the class, and instructor he likes helps. He didn't really want to go and was very worried she wouldn't pay attention to him, but much to his surprise she did well which I am VERY happy with.. I don't know what I'll do if he had the worst time.. he wouldn't want to take her again! So yes, he liked being the handler and he had seen the class structure before when I took Mars through Beginners'. He seems to like the dogs in their class and Pepper got along with another BC there, after class he took her to the off-lead area to wait for Mars and I to finish and they had no problems, quite happy to play and OH had a good chat with all the other Beginners' handlers. I just hope she keeps up the good work, or else it might deter OH from going.. ;) I think Hoover would be fine in the off-lead area, when Hoover has had his vaccinations let me know and I'll bring Pepper along on Sunday and when all the other dogs are training we can let them frolic in the off-lead area by themselves for a bit. Prior to going to classes Pepper was actually rather poorly socialised with other doggies (my fault), she's frightened of the black lab that barks at her on our walks, bikes, other dogs walking past.. so I didn't know how she would react with so many dogs surrounding her but she was very happy to be running around with all the doggies in the off-lead area and even though she rolled over and was submissive she was content to run after them and have a sniff also. mmmm.... melting moments... yummo!! So I've dropped Mars off for the snip..and to get his retained baby tooth pulled out, he didn't even care that I was gone he's always so happy to be at the vets. wuffles
The dogs have such a hard time when I'm home sick. Ava is forced to snuggle into the doona on the couch with me. Considering they haven't been for walkies today they are being such good doglets! Good luck to Mars who will be a changed man very soon
KumaAkita
So I've dropped Mars off for the snip..and to get his retained baby tooth pulled out, he didn't even care that I was gone he's always so happy to be at the vets. Hope Mars is ok today. I'm sure he'll be fine Kuma is the same, he lurves the vet - especially one of the vet nurses Michelle. Apparently he was all "see ya!" when the OH dropped him off for the snip...
koalathebear
I don't know what I'll do if he had the worst time.. he wouldn't want to take her again! What is it about men and being precious about obedience class??? When we start a new term, I hold my breath and hope OH approves of the instructor otherwise he won't come anymore! ;) So glad your OH likes Pepper's teacher - make sure you warn him that there will be bad days when everything and everyone (including duck poo and passing cars) are more interesting than puppy's handler ... I think Hoover would be fine in the off-lead area, when Hoover has had his vaccinations let me know and I'll bring Pepper along on Sunday and when all the other dogs are training we can let them frolic in the off-lead area by themselves for a bit. He should be fine next week, I think. Also, we de'flead Hoover yesterday (just in case) and so he should be fine for tomorrow's cuddles . We're getting some oral de-fleaing meds for Elbie since he hates the Advantix tubes so much. mmmm.... melting moments... yummo!! They look very unpretty though So I've dropped Mars off for the snip..and to get his retained baby tooth pulled out, he didn't even care that I was gone he's always so happy to be at the vets. I'm sure he'll be totally fine - I hope you have no problems keeping him quiet and subdued. wuffles: gorgeous photo of Ava... wish I could do that with my doggies but I have to keep my allergies under control. I will usually wear a dog shirt when cuddling them and could never bring them into bed.
dandybrush
aw isnt ava a little cutie raz loves the vets too, when he got done, he basically pulled the vet out the back didnt even say goodbye to me, when we go for his shots now he is still always super excited to be there
