KumaAkita
yeah im taking ike to puppy school at Gungahlin, i go every monday At the Vet with Vicky and Michelle?? We started there and did their puppy preschool and the beyond puppy. Thought it was good. We've moved onto BDOC at Mitchell - same as Wuffles and Koalathebear. Think about joining there if you want to go further with Ike's training than what they do at the vet. Kuma loves the vet now coz he thinks its all about play time! Yes, I am very cute... Awwwwww.... Yep... a dog and a towel... awesome cute. So... a few photos: Kuma and the Cardboard: nomnomnomnom ptehww and back to nomonomnomnomnom Dupree sent us a little thank you gifty (about time too! ) Today is my birthday, and the OH was going to tell me it was from him... guilt got the better of him :p Kuma was so entranced by us eating the chocolates he came begging for some. OH gave him a one of his special treats, but wrapped it in the same celophane that one of the human chocies came in, so he thought he was getting the same as us. He was STOKED! And a certain dog (not naming names here) decided that his bed should be outside his kennel Apparently the OH had put it back in there twice this arvo - me, I'm not so kind. He can do without it tonight if he wants to play silly buggers! "wasn't me, mum"

Genabee
Happy Birthday KumaAkita!!! I hope you are spoilt! Sorry I haven't been around the last couple of days. I haven't been feeling to crash hot and have spent most of my time on the couch. Crazy puppy: aka Genevieve, thinks that jumping on Mummy will help Mummy's cause... ahhh NO!!!. I have taken to snoozing with the squirter bottle in my hand, warning her off me. Apart from the fact that such behaviour is far from lady like, I don't think it is physically that good for me! I do feel guilty though, because she isn't being walked as often as she was. I did however manage to pull myself together long enough to take her to school yesterday. She was a PITA!!!! I was running late, so we didn't have any socialising time before the class started. BIG MISTAKE. I felt so bad because she kept distracting the other dogs. Normally she is pretty good. Does anyone else's dog like to dig at the grass??? I swear she thinks she is going to find buried treasure or something! KTB - I hate dog poop too. And I am always finding hair in Genevieve's!!! I mault like you wouldn't believe (I am constantly vacuuming - with my miele - sorry to ruin the dyson run!), but so does she, so who's hair she manages to consume I am not really sure! I can't really help you with the flea treatment stuff. I use Advantage on G - same as what you are using in that it is a squirt on the back of the neck - G just sits there and munches on her treat while I do it! She is like that with jabs at the vet too, doesn't seem to notice too much. I can't believe Ruby ATE A MOUSE!!!!! That jsut makes me feel sick thinking about it!!!! Ewww so so so wrong. I have had to replace four toys in as many days, because she has bitten them to pieces! One was brand new and within half an hour of her knawing on it, it was in half!!!!!!! Crazy! I don't know why I bother replacing them, she just eats them!!! She has also managed to destroy a USB and another phone charger this weekend.... This is becoming an expensive habit. I think I will have to see about getting her a part time job after school to contribute to the toys she likes to consume!!! ;) RE drying: It takes me about half an hour to bath and dry G. She loves having a bath, nice and warm... She usually rests her chin on the laundry trough and looks like she nods off to sleep!! I have to 'wake her up' to move her from the trough to the bench!! I dry her with the hair dryer, which she isn't so keen on but tolerates - anything to get a treat!! If I hold it far enough away from her she just sits and waits for me to finish!!! The look on her face is priceless!!!! I don't know what her problem is though, she lies directly beneath me on the bathroom floor most days when I am drying my hair. :p As for walking... I normally take her out around 10amish... We go for about an hour, then I come home and get ready for work while she passes out for the afternoon! She has me up about 7am, but I am in no way ready to face the world that early. At the moment, it is all I can do to get in the shower to get ready for work, so walks have been few and far between. Hubby walked and *ahem* skate boarded with her a fair bit while he was home! She also watches TV. Sometimes she stars intently at it, like she really understands whatever is on! I am often reading but will have it on for back ground noise... well, Genevieve really!!! If a dog barks though, she will stop whatever she is doing and comes running to watch - and gives me that look that says 'What'd I miss???'!! Of late, she spends her mornings sitting in the front windows of the lounge room, looking out on to the street. It looks cute, because from behind I can see her little ears twitching, head tiling and her tail lying perfectly flat along the floor!
lilli_star
Happy birthday KumaAkita! Hope you had a lovely day Geez you guys have been chatty today! Sorry to hear about Elbie not being well, KTB. Hope he's all better now. Ruby had a bad night too. After the monster poo last night, I was woken up at 4am by Ruby sounding like she was going to throw up. Thankfully, she didn't, but I thought I should take her outside just in case. Luckily I did, as she needed to wee and poo. I took her back inside and let her have a drink then put her back in her crate. I lay awake for awhile listening for her telltale snoring just in case before I let myself go back to sleep. I took her for a walk at 6:30 and while she wasn't as bouncy as usual, she seemed okay. Ate all her breakfast, and was attacking her cardboard box of treats (biscuits, a few bits of lamb and a Kong) when I left for work. I popped back home while my kids were having music after recess just to see how she was, and she was asleep in her kennel. I think she's been a bit of a pooing machine today :p . Hopefully that is the last of mousie and cow poo, and she's learnt her lesson. I gave Ruby some lamb flap when I got home. Sigh. I really don't know why I try and persist with it- she basically inhales it! It's just as well I sit out there with her while she eats it- she inhales it, then coughs it up, lather rinse repeat. After coughing it up about 4 times, I took that bit off her. Silly goose. She ate the other piece a bit slower, but then when we went for a walk, she was a little bugger grabbing the leash and playing tug and growling. Ack. Eventually we could walk on without her behaving like a hell dog, and she actually walked pretty nicely after that. Not nicely enough to make magical dog trainer lady pleased though. She won't be happy when she finds out I've kept walking Roo.

koalathebear
Wizzle, I am so sorry you were feeling poorly. Hope you're feeling better now! I have a tough toy recommendation. Elbie has been having great fun with his Tuffy. Video is . Please ignore the bit where he combines Tuffy with squeaky Kong ball... The squeakers in those kong balls are crazy! So far the Tuffy has proved very durable with inoffensive squeaking so we're going to get him some more.Elbie's current favourite game. His version of soccer. Video . He could play it for hours, OH and I are the ones that lose interest. ETA: With the dollar being good, I'm intending to put in a Tuffy order soon so if any Canberrans want to order a Tuffy, too - let me know and I'll throw it in with my order. - Oops, that Tuffy order is US only Oh well. Oh, I found a Canberra store. Free delivery in the ACT! Edited October 11, 2010 by koalathebear

Genabee
Thanks KTB. I think I might get worse before I get better somehow... It is still early days yet, but it looks like Wee Wizzle is on board! (Please if anyone is a FB friend don't mention it - we haven't told anyone yet). Ooooohhh maybe I will have to investigate one of those things!!!!

Niques
Paws are crossed over here as well, Wizzle! Wishing all goes well for you Elbie's got quite the swipe, there! Have you tried him out with a big ball? James loves to play soccer with his basketball. He'll "kick" it around the garage for ages until he's exhausted and keels over. Wow, when I mentioned Wee Wizzle I wasn't expecting him/her to appear so soon! Congratulations, dearest I hope Lord Wizzle is pleased. The Tuffy toy is very useful and after Dog plays with it, Dog can use it for a pillow. Genabee
Thanks friends!! Yes KTB, Lord Wizzle is very excited! Wee Wizzle has been on the cards for a while. I think he is more excited by it than I am at the moment... the fact that he doesn't feel like death warmed up for the greater part of the day may have something to do with that! Elbster looks so cute, having a shooshie on the tuffy!!! I love how it is colour coordinated with his bed!!! That is so something we do... where possible, all Genevieve's belongings are pink!! Much to Lord Wizzle's dismay! She is known as the 'Class Prefect' at school now, for her little uniform and coordinated lead and harness!!! I'm not obsessive compulsive at all!!! These are some snaps taken just now, of G outside, trying to sneak back in with a long piece of bark. This is typical behaviour of my little diggerupperer!!! She scratches on the back door to be let out - which I obligingly do. Then about 10 minutes later she will scratch on the door to be let back in - with leaves, sticks and any other crap she finds in the garden!!! Please excuse the dirty windows - all her doing!!! ravenau1
Happy Birthday KumaAkita You know, it's funny, I have a friend who has a dog named Kuma, but she's a Shih Tzu! I think it's Japanese for bear? I always thought it was an odd name for a small chinese dog lol. I do have a good friend in QLD who has an akita named Toshi, which I believe is Japanese too but I think it's a girls name. Must ask! Fingers crossed, Wizzle! I have an obedience question for you all, since all seem to be into it . At what age did you start classes with your dogs? And what sort of things did you do at home before you started classes? While I have had dogs before I've never actually been involved in a class situation.
