~Anne~
I was sorting through some old books that had come from my mother and came across a book that was published in the USA and The Netherlands many years ago (I can't find a publication date in it but I suspect it is from the 50 or 60's perhaps??). In it, I cam across this gem for treating a Pug with diarrohoea. Coffee and ice? What tha? I hope the pic is clear enough to be read.
iggy mum
Interesting! But what is Kaopectate and Karo syrup?
~Anne~
It seems Karo syrup is a sweetner and kaopectate is a medical product for diarrhoea. I had not really known of either though before reading it in this book.
poodlemum
Some of the old remedies really do work! I have a Poodle book from the 50s which recommends a small amount of plain yoghurt for puppies with diarrhea and it works a treat.
mita
It seems Karo syrup is a sweetner and kaopectate is a medical product for diarrhoea. I had not really known of either though before reading it in this book. Bis Pectin is a great old & still current human treatment for diarrhoea. From the chemist. I wonder if it's similar? Ingredients are: Each 15mL contains Codeine Phosphate 8.1mg, Light Kaolin 1.9g, Dried Aluminium Hydroxide 375mg, Pectin 120mg) I agree with poodlemum, about the old remedies. They worked when people had to use things close to hand. It's interesting to go back & look at them. Edited April 30, 2010 by mita

~Anne~
Yes, I'd give a dog yoghurt but I wouldn't be giving them tinned tomatoes or coffee though. Or restricting their fluid intake by only allowing them to lick ice.
