spoilt lab lives here
Ive done a search and couldnt really find what Im after. Ramses is a therapy dog and we go visiting each fortnight. I like him to be clean and smelling nice however the dogs yard has been turned to dust lately so he is always dirty. I am on the hunt for a dry shampoo that will clean him up and make him smell nice without the need for washing him. Does anyone know of a dry shampoo? I went to petbarn but they were no help and I ended up just getting a conditioner and was going to rinse him in plain water then condition the coat and dry him with the dryer. poodlefan
I think you'd probably get a better result using a horse dandy brush followed by a warm wet cloth to wipe him down and then towelling him off. If he smells, wash him. Plush Puppy Wonder Wash is a spray on, wipe off cleaner that's very good but I'd not use it all over a dog. I'd be worried about allergic responses to any powder left in the dog's coat. Edited April 30, 2010 by poodlefan
Aziah
A hot towel ruffed all over the coat will lift the dirt...
poppop
Go to a chemist or Priceline and get a human spray on dry shampoo (they are in a can). Or if your dog is pale you can use potato flour dusted through and brushed out to freshen him up.
Skye2
I have used the Plush Puppy wonder wash spray and i think it is good for a quick tidy up. I also use Fido dog wipes at times as well, i suppose baby wipes are similar and cheaper (not sure of the active ingredients). With the Plush puppy i would give the dog a good brush first then spray it into the coat and rub it in with your hands and then towel dry or blow dry. I used it last weekend on a baby puppy that had an "accident" in the crate traveling to the show.
InspectorRex
I am with Aziah here, a hot damp towel with get the dirt out of coat and you can always add a drop of eucalyptus oil to the water to get rid of any doggy smell(that is if your dog is not allergic to it). spoilt lab lives here
Thanks guys. I was trying to avoid washing him, as in getting him wet, but I bit the bullet and carried him through the house and into the bathroom His nails are long and damage the wooden floor hece the carrying. He was so filthy I ended up washing him anyway but now I have a leave in conditioner and his skin itch under control I guess it wont be so bad to wash him a bit more regularly. I am definatly going to be moving the dogs yard to an area where there isnt so muhc dirt! He needed 2 shampoos just to have the water run clear! He was that dirty! Now he is smelling beautiful all ready for our therapy visit tomorrow.
mita
A hot towel ruffed all over the coat will lift the dirt... This is the kind of thing I do. I get a bowl of warm water & a cotton facewasher. I just put a few drops of the highly concentrated NilOdor (from supermarket) in the water. I dip the facewasher & squeeze it nearly dry. Then rub thro' the coat. It doesn't actually wet their coat, but sloughs off any dirt and leaves the dog smelling great.
