They're not 'long haired GSDs'

LOL - I have had people ask me if i've shaved Sophie! Because she's not fluffy enough to be a German Sheperd? Or asked me what she's crossed with to not be blacker. Sigh. SHES A PEDIGREE GERMAN SHEPERD! And no, Chase's blue eye does not make him a Husky. Lol.

WTF!? :)

Haha, I got asked all the time when Lottie was a pup if she was a Husky and if not SURELY she's crossed with one!!! :(

We all do it!!

We actually don't all do it!!! My Havanese assume the dead cockroach position pretty much every time they go to sleep whilst the Schipperkes can assume that position on occasion but don't do it all the time....

I was kinda joking :laugh::)

Didn't you know though, blue eyes ALWAYS equal Husky! No other breed of dog has blue eyes, and any that do are "blind". :(:)

They aren't Australian, and they aren't border collies.

I agree with this Gayle, and also add...

No, I didn't chop off half her tail (she has a long bob tail)

No, she is not a husky cross dalmation ! (merle with blue eyes!)

Yes, she can see out of her blue eyes... what colour are yours! Blue? Can you see fine?

Hahaha, Agree with what you and GayleK said..... I get asked about her tail ALL the time!!!!! I just start the conversation with that now

There was a party next door the other night (I live where there are alot of uni students) and this drunk guy came up to the fence and said - oh look at the MONGREL with NO TAIL!!! NOTHING BUT A MONGREL!!!!! I was pretty p**sed off!!!!!!

This thread is great. Sooo many cool photo's of the cockroach's & smilers

The working kelpie is not a biddable as people think it is. They are biddable when doing what they love (working or sports) otherwise they are working out ways to get you to do what they want you to do. They need firm stable owners.

That just because they're grey doesn't mean they are called a 'greyhound' neither are they called "weimawhat?"

That despite their high energy they are the biggest couch potatoes at home..

ETA: That they come in LH variety and a litter can have both SH's and LH's in the litter.

Yep.. a cockroach here too (sorry for nutty buddies being in the shot!)

Oh yeah, the tail. She WAS SO born like that and no, it wasn't chopped off to suit the fashion. In fact, I'd like to think that a vet would do a whole lot neater job of tail docking than nature did on Dusty!

And yes, they are both the same breed. Look a bit closer.....they do look alike, just he doesn't have as much white as her.

(I frequently get asked what breeds my dogs are, not many people realise they are the same breed.)

I only recently found out that the GSD and Alsatian were the same breed... I though that the GSD were the shorter haired ones and the Alsatian the longer haired.... nope, just one name was more politically correct after WW2.

That Salukis ARE allowed to have a couple of ribs showing and a little of the of their hip/pin bones poking out...they're hunting sighthounds and are built in that svelte manner for a reason :) They're also tough as nails, full on rough when they want to be, and have been used as efficient desert hunters (killing gazelle and other prey) for centuries....all which of belies their elegant, dainty and fabulous supermodel appearance :(

Also, if you want to make friends with them, do not look at them and talk at them in a silly voice unless they are six months old. Your older Saluki will make friends if you ignore them for 10 minutes then reach out your hand for them to sniff without looking at them. If they don't back off, you can venture a pat. Remember, even if you are the Saluki's staff you are a mere infidel, if you're not their staff you're even less worthy of their attention

What do most people not know about Afghans? That they are devious and entertaining bastards who pretend to be daft and blonde while they thieve the best toys and tidbits.

Oh I know what you mean with the natural tails who aren't very neat or are a funny length Gayle! I was showing a dog with a NBT who was slightly longer once and the judge said to me "he has a natural bob tail, I can tell" I thought yeah, course he does what breeder would bother to dock to that length and not bother making it short! The funny length tails are kinda cute in a goofy way though!

Dusty's is not only a weird length.......short but not extreme....but she has a kink in it. How many dogs manage to have a natural bob tail but get a kink in the only extra vertabrae nature left them with?
