Another God I Love My Dog Thread

Saxon is the first dog I've ever had. We've had cats my whole life and I still adore them. It's lovely to have a cat around and it's so satisfying to hear my very grumpy 16 year old cat - who I adopted 9 years ago when she was abandoned after a clearly unhappy life - accept a cuddle and purr when I scratch her chin, but the dog/human relationship is so special.

Tonight I got tears in my eyes  when my gorgeous puppy sat and waited for his dinner until I released him. Even with both cats going ahead and eating, dinner being late and him being hungry, he still sat there and waited until I said it was ok to eat. I know this is a very basic training thing, but actually he started doing it of his own accord - I made him sit when he was a baby but not wait, he just started to wait for me to tell him it was ok.

I feel so lucky and honoured to have this little creature give boring old me such respect, devotion and trust as to patiently wait for me to tell him it's ok to obey his natural urge to eat :D

Ok, enough emotional gushing

When i adopted Sasha from a shelter ... the very first night i had her here she sat and waited patiently for me to put her bowl down and give her the go ahead and eat.... i was really suprised because that inviroment is usually the opposite and they usually jump around and gulp their food.

I was so proud of her and knew i had made the right choice

It's unfortunate you haven't gotten to owning a dog sooner. Expect more of this behaviour but add a teaspoon of grief, a tablespoon of laughter, a cup full of loyalty and a bucket full of love. Dogs are God's way of letting us know we'll never be alone

I totally get where you are coming from, today was me 3 year anniversary of getting my Stimpy so she came and spent the entire day in the Animal Nursery which I was running at our local show. Everyone loves her - just as much as they loved the baby animals there.

I am SO lucky that I was in the right place at the right time to have her end up in my life. I am her ultimate reward and I honestly think that is the most you can ever hope for in a dog

Glad you have bonded so well with your pup. I count my blessings with my lot everyday, they are my life and I just don't know what I would do without them!! They never cease to amaze me every day!!

I got Lottie about 6 months ago now, and I can't believe just how much I love her!!!! It's CRAZY!!!!! She's my 'first' dog (always had family dogs) and she's definately my best friend in the whole world, I love how her bum wiggles SOOOOO much when she sees me (I swear it's going to fall off!!), I love how clever, yet cheeky she is, and I LOVE seeing the beautiful dog she is becoming  :D

She was sick last week (luckily I work at an emergency clinic with the most AMAZING vets!!), but I just couldn't stop worrying every minute she was away.....

Loving this thread,

Riddick is the first dog thats ever been mine. I'm completely in love. He's lying on his mat at my feet and having a good chew on some toys.

Seems like 10 times a day I call someone to say "Oh god Riddick is *insert something cute here*!!" :D Luckily people are indulgent of my obsession.
