LizT
Very few clubs keep Reserve Challenge certificates but most will have ribbons. In fact in NSW (cant say for other states) there are rules stating ribbons must be handed out in the ring. I believe this should be enforced particularly for ch. rch, bob and rubob so unlookers can see what is going on. Rarely do dogs get put on the markers in place order and it is impossible ringside at times to know who got what. It is really great to be able to stand ringside and explain to onlookers/newcomers what is happening. At the Rylstone Kandos & District Dog Club shows on 24th & 25th July Ch and Res and Bob & Rubob ribbons will be handed out in the ring. We also have heaps of special BOB sashes. 1st 2nd @ 3rd ribbons will be available at the Secretaries tent and announcements made telling people where things are. I do think it important to create understanding of how things happen in the ring if we are to encourage and keep new people to the sport. Those who have heaps of ribbons can quietly hand their ribbons back at the secretaries office - looks very rude to do so at ringside. jmho Yes, that would have been nice. I recall collecting a first place ribbon from a ringside Steward one day and the darling elderly lady who was filling out Challenge Certificates and had the bag of ribbons under her table, reached down, pulled out a blue one for me, and stated in the most georgous way...."Oh, dear, look what they give you these days....you can't even tie up the tomatoes with one of these!" LizT
Here in Vic the Res Challenge Certificates are 40c each ...... it certainly wouldn't hurt all Clubs to have some on hand.As has been mentioned peviously ... a "cheap" PR excercise to encourage exhibitors. I would have gladly paid considerably more although I believe my entry must have covered any cost. I recall a Show where Exhibit Numbers were recycled cut up Challenge Certificates (written out so possibly unclaimed??)
Guest CaptainCourageous
WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN ? I spotted a ticket writer writing RCCs recently and I was amazed, as I hadn't seen one at an All Breeds Show for as long as I can remember. I've since seen them at other shows. I made some enquiries, and it turns out that in Victoria it is compulsory to make a RCC available to those who request it. So LizT, I think you are entitled to a RCC and you should be getting the Secretary to post one to you. CC

CC Wow that is a lot of Reserve Challenges certificates I could've raked over the last few months! I remember reading in the catelogue for Pakenham that if you want your Reserve Challenge Certificates to pick them up from the office! But I remember that day I just couldn't be bothered walking anymore, packed up and left for home. I usually always get the CC as I would really would like to title my little guy before starting his career in obedience.

Bisart Dobes
We've had reserve challenge at specialty level and didn't receive anything for that at all !! now that would have been lovely for the owners of the dog - he did get class in show but still . . . Bindii
I'm new too and for Fletcher's first RC it was a big one. He went on to get RUBOB (from the puppy class) over two almost grand champions and many champions. It was a 25pt Challenge that day, and the dog that beat him went on to get RUBIG so we were very proud! Happily, when i went to the office they did have some RC certificates and they wrote one up for me. The committee members were more than happy and said it was lovely for new exhibitors to have momentos for these special occasions. Like you, I'm a new exhibitor in a highly competitive breed, so these things are exciting!! Congratulations on your Reserve Challenge, just wait till you get the big one! :D Edited April 28, 2010 by Bindii

Kelza
Not everyone knows that you can also get a certificate for a best class in group and best class in show ;) They are always nice to keep too!
Guest CaptainCourageous
I've found this in the VCA Regs: 3.2 DEFINITIONSRESERVE CHALLENGE CERTIFICATES - are certificates offered only at Championship Shows which may be awarded to the runner-up to a challenge winner, entitling that exhibit to the Challenge Certificate should the Challenge winner become ineligible, except where the Challenge is withheld under the Regulations. I interpret the "may be" to relate to the judging, not the piece of cardboard. Not everyone knows that you can also get a certificate for a best class in group and best class in show ;) They are always nice to keep too!We normally refer to these as cards rather than certificates. They don't get signed by the judge, as far as I recall.
WreckitWhippet
What's the point of having a Res CC Certificate, it's not points and it's completely useless. I can understand collecting the Res CC ribbon from a Royal, Specialty or other major show but not an every day champ or ag show.

Well for that matter "What's the point of having Reserve Challenge?" How many Challenges are ever disqualified? You'd have to do something pretty stupid to get disqualified like lie about which dog you have there or something like that. And.....if you want to take it further what's the point of a third place.......
WreckitWhippet
Res CC enables the dog or bitch to go back in for RUBOB , depending on the outcome of the BOB. I just can't see why people get so excited over a Res CC and a ribbon and certificate, unless it's a Specialty show or the Royal etc.

Bindii
The certificate itself would be a nice momento for a new exhibitor in a competitive breed. Just like how to a new exhibitor ribbons are exciting, even though there is no real 'point' to them either.
Bilbo Baggins
I think some of the attitudes expressed here show why newbies give up. The hohum expressed by longterm winners is pretty apalling. IMHO

IMHO I have only been really been showing since December except for some members comps and our breed Championship Show. My first show was the Vic Champs where we got third in a class of about 10. That third place ribbon takes pride of place now with my In Groups sashes :p Yes I am sure that most seasoned showies would laugh but a hell of alot of blood, sweat and tears not to mention money and nerves went into that little white piece of satin Now I just want challenges and an in show award ;) Oh and a huge congrats LizT Edited April 29, 2010 by SnoPaws
