iheartmorrison
I've been putting off teaching my boy to lay "down" because I was getting frustrated holding the food out infront of him, he'd leap for it and end up going for my hand. Today I thought hey let's give it another go. I put his leash on, to prevent him from leaping on me, and I just had to keep calm and not get frustrated. I sat down with my left leg bent, and lured him thruogh with some food. At first Morrison was jumping over my leg, and sitting just looking at me like "I'm sitting just give it to me" but I ignored him. Then he started poking his head to get to the food, I was like yay he's getting the idea, eventually he went down in front of me (yay). I tried a second time, he poked his head through again, and then he realised that to get the food he had to lie down. We only did it twice, cause he was getting a bit too excited, and we had been going over sit and stay before we tried "down" so I let him chill on the grass. I know we need to keep working in it, I'm just so proud that he got the idea and glad that I persisted. He's still a bitter, mostly when he gets excited. 4 Paws
under the leg version was the only way of teaching drop to my foxie as well.Once under I found it was a good way of proofing if you bring food out from them and only bring it back to them if they stay put
Simply Grand
Yay, well done to both of you! It's so exciting when they learn a new thing, I love the moment when you see it click in their head and it's like "oooohhh, I get it " Edited April 23, 2010 by Saxonpup
