Oscar (AmBull)
Hi all, need a little help regarding flea’s. My dad has a 4 Year Old Labrador Retriever and a 2 Year Old Mini Fox Terrier. He recently lent his friend a bed, who has now returned it riddled with fleas without my Dad realising. So now the dogs have fleas extremely bad. The issue is that the Labrador will just need a Frontline spot on, however the Mini Fox Terrier has a reaction to the spot on’s, so I am wondering what else he could use? Is there a tablet of some sort? I know the powders and washes don’t really kill the flea’s, which is what we need, something to kill them before they spread even further. Any help is much appreciated. ;)
spoilt lab lives here
There is a product called Comfortis- a chewable flea treatment. Info on Comfortis
poodlefan
A Permoxin rinse would be my recommendation.
Aziah
Fido's Fre-Itch Rinse Concentrate would be my recommendation.
persephone
If there are no cats in the house- I second the permoxin! It is not smelly- is easy to apply as a spray/wash.. and can be repeated frequently.
Clyde
Ah! But if the dog has a reaction to Advantix spot on it's very likely it will react to the Permoxin. I would use Proban. I alternate in between Permoxin and Advantix, and I have cats in the house. I have had two clients dog have severe reactions to Comfortis.

baker_girl
Out of curiousity..does anyone rate using a combined tick and flea collar as an only measure for treatment of fleas? Like Killtix.
Oscar (AmBull)
Thanks for all the quick reply's. So would the Proban kill them or is it prevention?
GoldenWei
I'd use a capstar tablet, and then give comfortis. ETA: Capstar kills the fleas, starts working within 30mins. It was a godsend when we had a flea problem. Edited April 22, 2010 by GoldenWei
mokhahouse
What about a Capstar which kills adult fleas fast and then on to sentinel spectrum which does worms as well. Edited April 22, 2010 by mokhahouse
ridgiedidge
Am curious to know what sort of reaction the FT has to frontline? Our ridgie has a severe reaction to it as well, she loses spots of hair all over her body & becomes really itchy.
Miss B
I use Comfortis and swear by the stuff. I have not seen a single flea in months.
