muffinmclay
I discovered fleas on my dogs approx 10 days ago and treated them with advantix, as well as washing bedding, spraying the backyard with insecticide and giving the dogs a capstar tab too. Now one of them has fleas again, however they seem to mostly be around his hind legs, not really up near his neck where the advantix was applied. why are they back again? How will I ever get rid of them? I feel like crying, i spent an entire weekend washing bedding, floors, everything to have to do it all again :D
Crisovar
Insecticides only kill the adult fleas, or it you are lucky the larvae as well, so, more eggs have hatched. Treating the environment can take some time with repeat treatments depending on the products you are using.
Dogawne
The eggs can survive the adult flea, so they are probably out on the ground as well, they are so very hard to kill off, you just have to keep at them. I wash my veranda down with malaban that seems to help a lot.
t-time
Yep - unfortunately, you've got a hatching of eggs :nahnah: Any fleas on the dogs should die pretty quickly due to the Advantix and bedding can be rewashed. You could also try making up a dilute mixture of Fido's Flea & Tick Concentrate (or buy the already dilute) and spray the bedding and carpets, leave for 4 hours and then vacuum. Place a bit of flea collar in the vacuum to kill any live fleas you may suck up. Keep on it and you will hopefully soon be flea-free.
muffinmclay
I don't know what is going on, this is costing me an absolute fortune. I put Advantix on the dogs last night, and still this evening there were live fleas. So I went to the vet and bought some Capstar tablets, which I gave them at 6pm. Still there are live fleas. I just can't understand why they are still there - surely the advantix should have worked by now and killed any adult fleas on the body? I have to leave the dogs outside while there are fleas, and it is killing me that I can't have them inside with the family like usual. I'm about ready to shave them both bald
Crisovar
You have eggs hatching, and larvae developing and that happens over time not all at once, and until they have all hatched and all the adults have been killed you will continue to get fleas. If you have a high flea burden in your yard and house and it sure sounds like it, they will be jumping on the dogs every time they walk past, then they will be killed. Fleas only feed on the dogs they don't spend their whole life on the dog, they will be in the yard and in the house, in your car, and anywhere else you can think of. Treat the animals, treat the yard and treat the house, and on it goes until you break the cycle.
