poodlefan
I'm sorry but papers belong with the dog, unless the breeder is retaining more than a 50% share in the dog. Fair enough. My concern would be about desexing so young.. I'd be prepared to bargain to avoid it.
Red Fox
Sounds like you have it all sorted CW. I'm sure that between your vet and your breeder you will be able to come to an appropriate compromise Can't wait to see pics of your new puppy! I saw a lovely Japanese Spitz over Easter (on holidays with its owners) and almost fell out the car window trying to get a closer look ;)

There will be a lot of photo regardless on what my decision will be (but i'm leaning on getting is if she is awesome as what the breeder has been telling me!). WreckitWhippet
It's nothing against the breeder and I'm certainly not judging them for whatever they are doing to protect their lines and the puppies. It just sends mixed signals and messages to other puppy buyers and many get ripped off when it comes to papers and breeders who withold them. If the pup is going as a pet, then it should be on the limit register, the papers are useless in terms of breeding registered litters anyway. I know Charleswentworth intends to do the right thing, but anyone who was intent on breeding unregistered pups, wouldn't give a crap if they got papers or not. I'd prefer to see the breeders either co-own and retain papers until the animal is desexed or desex that animal prior to it leaving the kennel and provide the papers as per the canine councils rules and regs. Once a new owner pays for the puppy, the papers are righfully theirs.

Because, there are a lot of papers involved!!! ;) this can be confusing. I know, I get to choose the name on the registered and everything too... Yes I mean the ANKC pedigree papers, that belong with a buyers dog or puppy. Witholding limit register papers, would not stop those intent on breeding from doing so, all it does is provide an inconsistent experience for genuine puppy buyers and creates confusion. W Sibs
SBT123: Ohh.. I understand now. I, seriously, don't mind waiting. If that give the breeder some peace of mind to keep them till I get the pup desexed, then so be it. I have no hidden agenda or anything. She trust me enough to let me take the puppy entire, then I should trust her enough to send me those papers. at Poodlefan and SecretKei I rather do sports with my dogs though but who knows what the future brings ;) I always said I NEVER get another small breed dog. I'm going to get a Japanese Spitz. I always said I NEVER get a female dog. Looks like I may end up with one. So...

One of America's foremost dog sports vets certainly recommends that.
SeeGee
;) not to hijack the thread, but my vet desexed charlie at 5.5 months no questions asked...is that wrong? Could i have damaged him somehow? I feel a little worried now.......

Could i have damaged him somehow? I feel a little worried now....... No nothing is wrong there are two trains of thoughts and two lots of research, the pro will put there research forward and the againist will state their research facts. Really its up to each to research what is best for them and their dog. I desex early for my reasons as have other breeders in my breed, others have their objectives. there are many threads on DOL re for and against.
