Which Lenses Would Be Essential?

So it looks like this will be the new camera, however as a complete novice to the DSLR world am stumped as to what lenses I should get with the new camera.

Can get packages with 18-55 VR lens for what seem to be reasonable prices and are quite common have also come across a package that includes 18-55mm VR Lens 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX Nikkor Lens + 2x Telephoto Conversion Add-on Lens + .45 Wide Angle Conversion Add-on Lens but the camera is a refurbished shop stock, refurbished by the Nikon factory apparently :mad

So as a complete novice would the second package be any good to me or should I just go with the 1st package until I learn to use the camera :)

Thanks for your help and suggestions

I wouldn't mess around with the tele converters etc. For only a little extra you can get the twin kit lenses that you'd probably be more comfortable with - I know I would.

Yup and AFAIK the extension tubes on the 18-55 are terrible. It isnt a true teleconverter with decent glass in it as they dont work at such a low focal range. You'd be better at getting the twin lens kit or the 28-300 tamron OS lens

Just on the 18-300 tamron...whats it like in your experience???

With my nikon I got an 18-55 & 55-200 kit lens. The latter I have used plenty. As for the 18-55, not much at all. I saved my bikkies and later got a 50mm.

I think the wider range lens as a first up lens is good to work with as you get to learn your settings. Then you can decide where to go from there. As I have only owned my camera just over a year, perhaps some more expert people may be able to advise you..
