Pet Plan Enquiry

I have both dog and cat with PetPlan and have no complaints at all. Recently put a claim in for my Dane and received a letter back explaining they were having some problems with claims and it would be dealt with in order of receipt. About 2 weeks later another letter turned up and I thought I was going to have to ask why my claim was rejected - how wrong was I a cheque was enclosed for a bit more than expected and a letter explaining direcet deposits were not being done at present.

When I insured the cat he was only a kitten and was having ear mite treatment at the time, ear mites were excluded on his policy for the first 12 months since then he has been covered.

Both my Policies are due this month and I have no hesitation renewing them, Premiums have not gone up since last year which is a positive too although they did go up the year before which I think some people didn't like.

Any Any dog or cat I have responsibility for will have some form of insurance from the day they come to live with me, I have been in the position where having the insurance has allowed me to get the best treatment available and concentrate on my pet getting better rather than worrying about how I am going to pay for the treatment.

I Have been with Petplan for just under 2 years with 2 dogs insured with Standard Policy( up to $14,000 per year per dogs less $100 per claim ).

It has more than paid for itself as total claims in that period between both dogs has been around the $10,000 mark.

It is the only Company that has a 21 day waiting period, all others have a 30 day waiting period.

The Claims staff are all animal lovers and most of them are qualified Vet Nurses and deal with your claims as promptly as they can. They have had a few hiccups when changing computer software but so does any company when it changes software.

I used pet plan last year, my pup had a persistent ear infection, ended up costing around $600. I paid the excess to my vet and pet plan paid the rest direct to the vet.

Hi,

Another one with Petplan. I went with them for the wide range of things they covered, reasonable excess and 100% rebate.

I've had claims so far of up to $2000 paid back.

I too did find length of time to process claims a little ridiculous. For one we had to constantly call and follow up.

kate&eddie- When they paid directly to your vet, was this a first time claim or ongoing? I'm just having an issue at the moment...or had. Where I was considering getting a recommended surgery done, yet Petplan refused to give me any indication prior to the procedure if they would cover it. I told them that part of the decision to do it would be if it would be covered. I had to write an email to the Manager in the end because I needed further clarification. They kept repeating the exclusions if it's pre existing and during waiting period but I needed to know for my particular circumstance. Anyway, I guess I just don't understand how they have that option to agree to pay your vet...if they don't pre advise if a claim will be covered? Surely you wouldn't go through with a procedure and then your vet agree to be paid directly unless they are 100% sure it will get paid?

When I used Pet Plan I guess I wasn't certain they would pay, but the treatment had to be done anyway so if they didn't I would have paid the vet myself. Because the vet handled the paperwork I'm not sure how long they took to pay.It makes sense to me to do it that way as the owner doesn't have to pay and then wait for a refund, which seems a bit pointless, and the vet is better able to answer questions regarding treatment.
