Had our girl scanned on day 28 from 1st mating, no pups :)

The stud dog owner has told me i am mad having a scan at this time as she was mated 4 times over 8 days so the scan was too early if she took at a last mating!

What do you all think have I gone too ealy, should I go back next week? :D

Has she shown any other signs that she may be in whelp? Have her nipples become pinker? Has she thickened around her waist? If she didn't take till the last mating then she would be just over three weeks. I would go again in maybe two weeks for another if she has other signs. I do hope they have just made an error - have heard many times before of u/s being incorrectly read.

One of the best signs is the change in moods - is she sooky-la la? Having said that some girls are like that anyway but our girls generally get a bit sooky la la at about 3 - 4 weeks. Look for the change in nipples - size, colour, hair loss etc. And the thickening is a bit hard to describe in some ways - I look for that double tummy effect around the last rib that comes at about 4 weeks.

If she was mated so many times over so many days then I would wait until the 5 week mark from the ultimate or pentultimate mating. I usually know by then (or am relatively confident) and am going to confirm for my own mental health - and with a maiden bitch if you have a ruogh number then you know how your bitch is going. I would hate to have my girl 'pack up shop' so to speak with 6 babies and not know there were two more to come - JMHO.

Go agian in two weeks.

Yes she is really extra soppy and trying to be a lap dog ...you should try a newfie sitting on your lap  nipples are more prominant and had a week or so when she was off her food and being sick!! she does not look brorder but she is wide to start with!! I have boojed another scan for 7 June, dread to think how I will wait that long :)

Definately worth another scan, to put your mind at rest. 7th June will come quick enough.

Best of luck!

We went for our weekly weigh-in today and came out at 33.7 which is a gain of 2.4 since last week and a totla gain of 3.7 kg.

She is 7 weeks and carrying 8 pups - do you think this is too much?

Well 8 pups of 300 grams is 2.4 plus placentas and fluid and extra fat for feeding I would say pretty on track.

Thanks BB, I thought it sounded ok but our regular vet wasnt there and some young pup - looked fresh faced from Uni (very judgemental I know but) - said Oh ghee that's a big weight gain, I would be watching that -

But she's still really active and jumping up into the truck - I dont make her do anything but if she wants to keep going I'm not going to stop her. We are off to obedience training tonight - its still gentle exercise and good socialising.

Thought Lele was going to go into labor last night but as it turns out I was wrong. I was awake all night, waiting, watching. Think i managed 3 hours sleep.

She is nesting and urinating alot, restless and her temp has dropped to 36.9 last night before bedtime but i haven't been able to get a reading this morning as hubby flew out the door this morning and it's a two person job. Funny enough she wanted chicken necks (loves her food). She has milk, able to squeeze her top nipples.

So i beleive I'll be posting news within the next 24hours. :mad

Mercedes,

My rotty whelped a litter of 13 in April, her total weight gain was 11kg - pups weighed from 228 to 354 grams. Her weight at the time of mating was 40kg, and her weight post whelping was 39.5, she was all baby
