Joan of Arc
Me too, I think its fantastic. Congratulations to you all and I too am off to find Sway's page, but I havnt seen it before. Now, tell me I am bored, or anal or something but I took my girl to the vets today to weigh her. I wanted to use the same scales evertime - she tends to carry a bit extra and we have to work hard to keep it off so trying to be a bit on the wall with weight gain. So last Monday at 5 weeks she was weighed 29.9kg and told to expect a at least 8 pups. Today she weighed in at 31.3kg. gain of 1.4kg. One of the new vets at the surgery passed by and commented that he thougth it was a bit too much gain. As I was leaving our vet, the owner of the practice arrived and we commented to him. He took one look at her and said 'no problems'. So ladies (oh and gents) what do you consider a normal or ok weight gain for your breed?
TeamSnag
My girl has put on just over 500grams.. vet told me he wouldnt want her to put on much more.. but i am feeding her 3 small meals aday.. when she wants to eat it.. rajacadoo
rajacadoo, do you have an idea of how many to expect. We too would love some support in the middle of the night, hoping against hope it doesn't come to that. Thanks for the reminder about Sway's site. Thanks Hesa... The Vet said she could feel 3 'blobs', and the U/S showed 2-3 'blobs', so Im happy with that, although another 1 or 2 would be gratefully accepted . I think we can all support each other during the middle of the night, ummmm for those of us that are night owls at least
rajacadoo
So ladies (oh and gents) what do you consider a normal or ok weight gain for your breed? Well speaking of weight gain... We got to the Vet this am and weighed Ochre and she was 9.8kgs, then when we went back a couple of hours later she was 10.1kgs  . Same scales, no food or water had been had, so I have NO idea what happened there Chocolate do you have any ideas, is this normal, (well as normal as you can get with a Basenji ) ??? Maxbox, thanks, very happy ...

Shelby
Rajacadoo - Congratulations How exciting for you. I am feeling a little bit apprehensive as well as it has been a while since I have had a litter here at home. Have helped a few friends whelp their babies but it is a little bit different when it is your own. My girl showed five on her ultrasound and the vet has advised that she may go early. As to weight - wouldn't have any idea as to how much she has put on. Feels quite a bit though when I pick her up for a cuddle Am sure in the next few weeks, the belly will balloon. I too will be doing a bit of shopping at Sway's Any excuse to buy new doggy things

Maxbox, thanks, very happy :D ... I wouldn't really expect her to put on 300g within a few hours without food or water so I would be blaming the scales! I know when my guys go on the vet scales the digits flip around a bit until they are totally still for a moment. What weight is Ochre normally? I get to find out if Mimi (Milo/Khyber) daughter is pregs tomorrow as her owner Debbie is getting her ultrasounded. She was mated to her grandsire Blade. rajacadoo
Yep the scales were to blame . Not sure about this keeping them still enough for the digits to settle. Im not sure my guys are still even for a nanosecond at the Vets .To be honest I havent a clue what weight she is normally :D . Dont think I have ever weighed her... I thought U/S day would never come :p ... I had an appt for 9.30, then when I got there, the Vets had it down for next Monday instead... So I had to go away and come back at 12.40, and I have NEVER had time move sooooooooo slowly, I can tell you :D ... I guess that Mimi's owners are having the same feelings. Its so exciting !!! Blade is a handsome man, so it should be a nice mating... When are yours due ??? I swear every Aussie breeder is having a litter, or 2, this year... It wll be a very compettive Specialty Baby class, in October, wont it :p ???

We are feeding 3 meals a day plus cheese and other snacks throughout as she at my feet begging for food. She refuses to eat puppy kibble or can food so she is on the finest human food I can provide. I know exactly that she was 7.5kilos when we had her ultrasound at 30days. She is now around 9.2kilos with one week to go. Her weight gain has eased off a bit. She had a stage were she was packing on the weight and I was a bit concern. We have 4-5 pups showing on ultrasound. I can't seem to keep her still long enough to feel or see the pups move She normally is a lap dog but since pregnant she rather wiggly and uncomfortable to postion herself. Everything seems to be going along fine, hopefully next week I can share some puppy photos. Wish me luck, my first time "flying solo" whelping a litter. All very exciting and stressful at the same time.

They took Mimi in for the U/S and the vet said no one hear knows how to use it so we'll have to palpatate her instead Two vets felt her and said yes she is definatley pregnant with a few babies in there! She's due end of June/beginning of July. I am only just confident enough to say I think Vanilla is pregnant as she's beginning to get thick through the body. She's been showing behavioural differences like wanting heaps of fussing and strokes. She's been laying in bed for the last couple of weeks also, I have to drag her out as she's too comfy to get up! She began a funny little habbit of nibbling at her front legs whilst in bed at night prior to us falling asleep. If I stroke her she stops but as soon as I stop she nibbles again, very quirky So if she has taken from the first mating she would be due about 23rd June. She has been mated to grandad Deej who is 12 this year.
