Paganman
I just heard Hugh Wirth on his vet show on ABC774 talking about vaccinations.I carnt stand him but he says the immunity from vacs drops over time and distemper and hepartitis MIGHT last for 3 years but parvovirus vaccinations wont last that long. This doent agree with what Ive heard and read.He sounds like a pretty old school sort of vet so is he right or wrong.I wondered what others thought. WreckitWhippet
Put it this way, I'd take what Dr Dodds says over Huge Worthless any day
Jacquiboss&scoop
The AVA recently changed their recommended vaccination plans , the issue with Parvo vac as I understand it has to do with the vaccine type ( live vs dead ) used with the dead losing effectiveness first . Facts are that in some dogs the immune response never happened with out testing the serum levels you dont know if puppy vacs have worked or not the other 2 have shown in studies to have several years worth at least of cover so am not sure where he is coming from on this ? So perhaps some truth involved , but did his usual not present all available info , suggest you read the studies and make an informed decision LOL Having a Rottweiler makes me very careful about parvo but as I read more I find that the timing of the initial vacs make all the difference not the yearly vacs so much
Erny
Hugh Wirth's little pearly expressions of 'wisdom' always leave me cynical enough to disbelieve them first, before I'd be game to believe them. He has a track history that's earnt him lack of credibility amongst many. If he turned around and said "PPCollars - aka prong collars - are great" I think I'd begin to question even my own belief of the good of that training aid . rubiton
Technically he could be right BUT from what I read its seems there are new vaccinations from the drug companies that are expected to last the 3 years (well the info posted on the email forum at work seemed to be from a drug co rep). So guess it depends on what vaccine is used and of course the individual immune system of the dog but comments either way never seem to add the extra information. Bit like the rspca planned laws of ever dog owner must walk their dog every day - yes true good idea BUT there are exceptions and circumstances that make a law like that just not workable.
