The flea saga continues.... I found a dead one on Kiesha last night. I guess its a good thing it was dead but  the pesky filthy little buggers are still around in my house.

More cleaning for me this long weekend :)

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH We are INFESTED! The carpet throughout the house has retained the yucky fleas even after a flea bomb! We set it off, was all good for a few days, then BAM today they're in the carpet in all the rooms again despite dailg vacuuming! Can anyone tell me if you can just hire a pest controller to come out and douse the house so the whole place is flea free? I can't stand it - the cats seem fine with thier advantage but poor puppy is still a bit itchy and hubby and i are getting bitten. This is awful! I'm just at the point where i'm happy to pay a pro to come and get rid of them, only problem being today is Friday and I wont have the $$$ to have it done till pay goes in Wednesday morning! ARGH!

Being a woman can other women relate to the fact that I feel I now need to reclean my house and that I am a dirty person because my dog has a flea?

It's hard to overcome that feeling, but I'm comforted by the fact that so many other people are suffering from infestations as well, despite preventative measures. Fleas aren't that disgusting to look at, it's the stigma of having fleas is so much worse. Can't say it's information I've told anyone outside of DOL :)

Oh no, did you use enough flea bombs for the size of the house?

I had an awful wait of a few days because for some stupid reason I bought my flea-killing arsenal online and had to wait for it to arrive, vs going to the shop myself (I think it was late at night when I discovered them and I wanted to do something then and there to fix it - not the most logical decision of the week)

It is the eggs and the larva that are the problem, carpets can make it very hard to get to them all.

Did the Flea Bombs you used have an Insect Growth Regulator in them.

It is very hard to eliminate them if all the products you use are only killing the adult fleas.

Raid Flea Killer Plus, Protect a Home (? made by virbac) spray work well they get to the eggs and larvae as well.

Steam Cleaning the carpets and soft furnishing helps too.

It helps to have a Dyson. Part of our problems last summer was our shagpile carpet. It is almost impossible for anything to penetrate to the roots of that horrible stuff. We hate it. One of these days we'll get around to ripping it up.

We are on our second month with no flea protection after Comfortis all spring/summer and still no sign of them.

Incidentally, I have one Comfortis tablet for dogs under 10kg that I can no longer use as Erik is now over 10kg. If anyone with one small dog wants to give it a go, PM me. It is nasty stuff, that is for sure. It made Kivi vomit the first couple of times he had it, even on a full stomach as suggested. His body settled down after that and no further reactions. Erik was a little off colour the day after the first dose, but no further side effects. I wouldn't use it lightly, but I do not know what would have happened if it hadn't come on the market when it did. Our problem was scary. It's hard to believe all it took was a new treatment to break the cycle.

For some reason my rabbit never got them, though. Her cage is inside and nearly a metre off the ground. She does come out of her cage briefly every week, but she just never picked them up. Good thing, because you can't give Comfortis to bunnies.

Oh no you poor thing. How did you notice them in your carpet? I have decided that my next step is a prest controller man to get rid of them but so far so good.

I haven't found anymore fleas but I do keep finding these reddish brown things on the dogs which are like the shape of a tear drop on the dogs. I think they are about the size of a flea. I have googled images related to fleas but can't find anything similar. Are these likely to be from the fleas?

I can't notice any flea dirt either.
