Abigail
I am looking into getting a westie or a cavalier in the near future (perhaps one of each). If that is the case I will be looking into clipping the westie myself so therefore am considering in investing in a pair of decent clippers. My gf owns two poodles and has both a pair of Andis and Oster clippers and she claims that she prefers the Osters but that they do tend to get hot rather quickly. What are your experiences and what do you prefer and recommend?

To get a good finish on a Westie you would strip the coat, not clip it. I own Andis clippers and like the fit in the hand and the fact that as a sealed unit, it does not require servicing. Dogsfevr
If the westie has correct coat it is easier to strip the coat & maintain it than clip.A good breeder will show you how to do this.
Blue Fox 001
I have the Wahl one speed and the Laube Mini Micro. Love the Laube's - small, lightweight and reasonably quiet in comparison the Wahl's. I have now ordered the battery pack for the Laube for the 2nd time and it's out of stock so not real happy about that
Marion 01
I have Wahl 2 speed ( never use the second speed, but at the time there was a special on the 2 speed and they were cheaper than the single speed) and Oster, and much prefer the Wahl for comfort, and they are a lighter weight than the Oster. I have 15 dogs to clip every 3 months so need the clippers to be comfy as I try to do 3 a day. The Oster clippers are my backup if the Wahl should decide to chuck a hissy in the middle of clipping, which has happened before. Marion01
Boronia
When I got Penny and Mac they were 8 and 7 years old. I read up on stripping westies but ended up clipping them...Penny cried when I pulled 4 hairs out and Mac shrieked as though I was chopping him up! (he is a sook anyway, he will yelp or go huuuh huuuh when I wipe his eyes with a damp tissue if there is some dry bits there on dusty days), so ok, they win and so I clip them and they love the buzzy feel of the clippers. If you are stripping them best to start when they are pups.
