giraffez
My dog refuses to sleep in its bed. He rather jumps onto the sofa and sleep there . How can i encourage him to go back to his bed?? I tired fencing the area to his bed so he can't get out but he starts making noises at night - barking, whimpering, scratching... anything to get our attention.... at 3am in the morning, its hard not to give in! Is he allowed on the couch at other times? Its hard to police it if the rules change at different times. I used to put a bar stool on my couches when I went to bed. After a while they gave up and moved back to their beds........ or mine

I doubt he will care, he'll find his space and squat there. yes he is allowed there at other times... i guess he feels that the leather sofa is much comfy than his bed! Could also be he has overgrown his bed..... at one point i took the pillow out and threw away the bed but he still doesn't sleep there.
IngeK
why worry about it if he is allowed on the sofa anyway? He just picks the spot he most likes ;) Id prefer the sofa to then a to small bed I guess
persephone
Put a thick rug on the sofa! it's hard if he is allowed on it at other times... if he has a spot where he will go happily- then let him ;)
LizT
Mine wouldn't sleep on their beds and preferred the couch but I got sick of all the hair on the couch (esp. as I wanted to get a new lounge suite soon) so I got some X'mats for when we aren't using them and moved their beds right next to the couch. They now sleep in their beds when we are watching telly and I'm looking at getting some new furniture soon. I know it was my own fault for letting them on the couch in the first place but the amount of hair they left behind got ridiculous so I had to be consistant and strong. It certainly is easier to make the rules straight from the start but sometimes we change our minds and situations change. They still take advantage of any available lap though! ;)
Whippetsmum
Slightly off topic, but, my husband has decided our Whippy should sleep in our bed, any ideas on getting the husband to sleep on the lounge or dog bed. Dog doesn't snore, Husband does, dog probably cuter too...........
julesluvscavs
I gave up a long time ago about mine sleeping on the lounge, if that's what they prefer ! I just deal with the hair after LOL Mind you they sleep on/in our bed at night Edited April 15, 2010 by JulesLuvsCavs
ravensmyst00
He might be cold. My boy only starts sleeping on the sofa when the temperature starts to go below 14 degrees. Once Spring comes back around and it starts warming up he's off the sofa.
schnauzer
It is starting to get cold and if he is clipped short he may be feeling it. Put a nice warm rug up there for him to snuggle into - or buy him a doggiejama and let him work out where he wants to sleep. His basket may be in a draft.
