Walking Through Vic Market Last Sunday

I am from Southern NSW..........I had to pick hubby up post Surgery from Cabrini Hospital Easter Sunday and because I hate doing the Freeway alone I had Annabelle my older newfie girl along.

Mike wanted something from the Vic Market, so we parked and I thought she might as well stretch her legs too.

We walked a very busy Vic Market.......I felt like Moses, parting of the crowds.............People must have thought I had an aggressive dog along. And she walks so beautifully along side me. I thought it was quite funny. People at the pet-shop gave her a treat and drink. And some kids asked could they pet her. Obviously not many doggy people at the Market

Though afterwards, are dog allowed at the non-food section?

Not sure if they're allowed, many years ago, almost 30 now I used to see an elderly gentleman with a blind poodle that used to wander trhough the food section. He used to let the dog loose and I could see it sniffing for where he was. It carefully naviagated its way through the crowds. I took my whippets there too but I cannot remmber if I went through the indoor food halls, I certainly went throught the outdoor sections though and never got told off. It wouldn't surprise me if it's alot stricter now though.

Dogs are allowed there, except for the food parts.

I remember I was there with a GH once and a woman commented about how ugly the dog was. Luckily there was a mirror close by I could refer to woman to.

Mostly people were great though.

funny that. Last time I tried a security guard told me to leave and that dogs are not allowed in the isles either, then pointed to some faded yellow smear on the ground that was apparently a no dogs allowed sign

at one of our large weekly local markets which is mainly 2nd hand stuff but some food(mainly fruit/veg)the last time I went you could take dogs but they had to be muzzled.Most dogs I saw had those nylon ones hanging around there neck so obviously put on to enter and than slipped off

Not from there . .. so I know nothing.

But Markets in general are a wonderful place for socialising a dog. Take your older puppy -- given it's already pretty cool with people and leads, to a market several times, and you'll end out with a bomb-proof dog.

I was there several months ago and saw at least 4 dogs there.

I wouldn't take my guys as there is a chance they could get stood on.

I would hate to have my boy cock his leg on the leather jacket stands or something expensive

I have always taken my dogs in there without an issue. There is even a petshop in the middle!! Don't think anyone will take you on with those girls Ron. They my slobber them to death.

Just keep your big drooly things away from the merchandise unless you want to come home with a lot of cheap imported rat leather.

Rufus gets into more trouble at petshop. Silly dog decided to mark at Spoilt Rotten Pets - lucky the owners were understanding!!

I always see dogs shopping at Vic market --- they are usually rather well-behaved. I dare not bring mine along as he is quite notorious for stealing fruits/food so I really don't want to invite trouble It's mostly open space so I think the dogs might even enjoy the sights and sounds. Such a pity they are not allowed....I mean there are live chickens along some aisles so it's really not that different from a Farmers' Market..where many dogs enjoy with their owners. ;)

;) That will never be my problem..........They are rather large, but i can see how scary it might be for little dogs. I love taking my dogs to all sorts of social events

I left my dogs at home recently to go to markets at Berry,NSW. Wish I didn't as there were dogs everywhere and it was very open and not crowded. Next time.

I must watch out thou cause at a market day once I was leaving the RSPCA stall and the lady selling asked me very seriously if I was going to pay for that. I had no idea what she meant and then she laughingly pointed out my dog had stood up (he is little) and dragged a toy off the bench. He still had it in his mouth. Can't remember but I was impressed he was getting more confident so I think I brought it for him.

A couple of years ago I went to Yarra Glen Market (now no longer running there) and was turned away at the gate with my Cavalier puppy Once upon a time you could take your dogs t just about any market but today they seemed to be banned from more and more areas. Getting more difficult to solialise a puppy these days!!

I will never understand why arent we allowed to take dogs to more places.

When in Paris last year I had seen two woman doing some shopping in the Galeries Lafayette.

One had a mini poodle and the other a harlequin gread dane.

This is the depertment store Im talking about, they were in the cosmetics section.

It must be wonderful to live in France.

A friend of mine went there recently and said she sat next to a tiny little old lady on the train who had an enormous GSD sitting with his head on her lap Beautifully behaved the whole train ride. And just about everywhere they went there were various breeds of dogs, at restaurants, in hotel lobbies etc...

I have never seen a dog wearing a muzzle when I am there.
