Isnt there an emergency vet at marion or anzac hwy? Or there is the option of the mobile vet but since he is from slightly northern suburbs going to the local emergency vet hospital down that way would be closer for everyone

Yeah the emergency vet is at the corner of Anzac Hwy and South Rd. But I REALLY can't stand them. They're not a good vet. I take mine to a vet up here that has an emergency service, but it's all the way up in Greenwith.

Admittedly it was a few years ago now, but when I took my dog to the Anzac Highway vet they went against everything the vet I had seen earlier in the day had done, didnt listen to me at all, and gave my dog medication that made her worse, including a blood thinner when she was having trouble with actually getting her blood to clot and we were waiting on results to see if she had been baited. I dont however know the Glenelg and surrounding suburbs, we are northern. Sorry.

Doesn't necessarily have to be Glenelg, though close would be a bonus. The only good vet I know of in Adelaide is in Gawler so that's a bit far out lol.

Really anywhere within a 30 min radius of Glenelg would be fine.

In all likelyhood we wont be in any need of a vet. However if for any reason we were I'd want to know that I could trust them

Not a fan of the Emergency Vet. I'd rather go to Adelaide Animal Hospital at Magill. From West Lakes there's not much difference in travel time. If it was a matter of life and death and time I 'spose you'd have to risk the Emergency Vet

Hope everything is fine and you don't need a vet :)

Thanks, I'm doubtful that I will. But in case of anything happening I'd hate to be combing throught the phone book looking for one. I was thinking that I would just get the details of a decent vet, print it out and put it in with my stuff in case it's ever needed.

Do you have the details of the Adelaide Animal Hospital Bully? Are they opened 24 hours?

The concept of an 'emergency vet' is a bit different to what I'm used to. Our local vet is only opened normal hours and then has a mobile no that you ring in case of out of hours emergencies.

There is also an Emergency Vet on Magill Road - not the same as the Adelaide animal hospital. I believe they are part of the Adelaide veterinary specialist and referral center - well located in same building.

I have their fridge magnet at home but don't know any more details while at work unfortunately.

http://www.vetreferrals.com.au/index.html

Open 24hrs for emergency and has the added bonus of specialists throughout the day. Very nice people to deal with.

I have used Anzac Hwy and Golden Grove emergency clinics and wouldn't recommend them for a pet rock.

i second all posts re the anzac highway vet...i have had more bad experiences there than good and i avoid them at all costs

Thanks all. I've printed out the details of the Adelaide Animal Hospital and also Marion Animal Hospital as a back up and put them with my dog stuff.

Thanks for that link too Gracie Monsta, I had come across that vet whilst searching but thought that they were only a specialist centre. I'll keep them in mind too.

As I said, I will more than likely not need a vet for 3 days away  But I think that it always pays to be prepared -just in case :)

I have this fridget magnet too - they only have a one page website with opening hours but no further details.

Yep I agree about the Anzac Highway vet. John Calder and Gerry Dean on Brighton Road used to be good when I lived down that way some years ago - not sure what sort of after hours service they offer these days but you could call and find out.

Second the Adelaide Animal Hospital on Magill Road or alternatively my favourites run a good after hours service - Derek McNair's practice on The Parade at Norwood - The Parade Veterinary Clinic.

Here's hoping you never need it. Hope that helps.

I would recommend Colonel Light Vet Clinic, 59 Springbank Rd, Colonel Lights, 8276 7711. (about a 15 min drive from Glenelg)

They are very caring and don't charge high rates. I took my dog in to have stitches removed and there was no charge for the consultation which took over 20 mins. Think they close around 6.30pm.

If you want to stay in Glenelg, there's the Glenelg Vet Clinic, 597 Anzac Hwy, Glenelg 8295 7312.

I've used them myself and well, it's ok but I prefer the former. They are expensive but the main reason I now go to Colonel Lights is that they have far more experienced vets.

Have also used Magill Road specialists, not as an emergency but to pick up my boy from day surgery late in the evening. They are well organized and had at least 5 staff on close to midnight which impressed me. They were very busy that night and seemed to manage well. About a half hour drive from Glenelg.

Enjoy your stay in Glenelg, lots of places to hang out with your pup here

I used the specialist/referral centre after hours emergency service (Magill road) on a Sunday once when Indi cut his leg open tearing around the yard, they were very caring and professional and did a great job with stitching him up
