House Training At Night

It's been so long since I house trained my last dog, who I also brought home at the age of 10 months, I forget what I did!

Tomorrow I'm bringing home a 10 month old Kelpie after being desexed at the vet (from the RSPCA) and he'll be crated at night (at least at first).

I was intending to take him out to the toilet last thing at night (10:30 - 11 pm) and first thing in the morning (7/7:30).

Do you think at this age I need to also set my alarm and take him out at around 3 am?

Thanks,

At that age he is perfectly capable of holding on between the hours you specified.

If it was me I would start as I mean to continue and I would feed about 5pm and withhold the water from about 6pm.

Make sure he goes to the toilet before you put him to bed for the night.

Thanks!

I think I might see how relaxed or restless he is and decide what to do when we go to bed. His crate is near my bed, so I should become aware if he gets restless. I'm sure I'll be awake most of the night anyway!

My girl is 7 months and can hold on all night - especially if in her crate - guaranteed no accidents

My boy is nearly 14 weeks and most nights he can hold it from around 10-30pm to 5-6am. If you can hear him from where you sleep then just keep an ear out, I know mine has no problems letting me know he needs to go out.... mind you, he wakes my 15 month old up too and then they are both scampering around the garden at 3am....
