MrsD
Dances with Dogs Beginner Course. Dances with Dogs Club QLD (DWDCQ) has now finalized details for the first beginners course to be run. The planned course is to be run over a period of 4 weeks, Sunday afternoon 2 to 4 pm, commencing May 9 and continuing May 16, 23 & 30. It is to be held at the CCC grounds, King Avenue Durack. As this is an outdoor venue, if there is a need to cancel due to rainy weather, the session will need to be rescheduled. Cost: $40 for the course, plus membership to DWDCQ (for a single member this is $40 + $25 membership fee and $15 joining fee – please see attached application form for further details). DWDCQ reserves the right to cancel or postpone the course if insufficient registrations are received (full fees would be refunded if this were to occur). There is a maximum of 12 participants. The course will cover clicker training, exercises to obtain and improve focus and attention, and a range of basic moves as well as some transition moves, and putting it all together to music to form a simple routine. If anyone would like an application form please send me a PM with your email address in it & I will send it off to you.

BC4ME
I am seriously tempted but neither Daisy nor I have any coordination. I've seen you try to walk a straight line But you should give it a go Bec DWD is so much fun except if you have a dog like Chook then it is just down right frustrating

MrsD
this sound like fun . what are the pre req's? what age does dog need to be etc ? thanks The dog needs to be 12 months & older to compete in DWD but training can be started at virtually any age. If you have semblence of control over your dog (sit & wait mainly) you would be fine to start beginner training, there is no pre-requisite like CCD or being able to heel etc. Bec, you should come along, it's heaps of fun & even if you never get to dance in a comp teaching the tricks & mucking around with them is very rewarding to the dog, not like standard obedience . huski
Thanks MrsD, I am seriously considering it. I suck at trick training and would really like to improve with it. Will you be instructing???
MrsD
Thanks MrsD, I am seriously considering it. I suck at trick training and would really like to improve with it. Will you be instructing??? Trick training is fun & when you see that lightbulb moment in the dog's eye when he/she gets it for the first time is pretty exciting! I don't know who is instructing the course itself, I havent been asked so I doubt it's me but I could find out who it is if you'd like?
huski
Thanks MrsD! I don't need to know or anything, just curious if it's someone I know of or have seen doing DWD before! I get that lightbulb moment when I've taught Daisy to do more complex obedience stuff like the formal retrieve or scent discrim and it's awesome to see! I really want to get better at trick training as all she can do at the moment is give paw and hi-10. Nothing cool like some of the DWD dogs! Tiggy
I think teaching the tricks would be fun to . I'm lucky that my dog training club runs DWD classes, I'm joining up when they start back after the school holidays.
MrsD
I don't know who you've seen huski, so I'm no help at all . If you want to do 1 thing before the class that will give you lots of options when it comes to tricks, teach Daisy a hand touch/target. It really opens up alot of different things you can teach once they know how to target your hand ;) . Tiggy, lucky! Some of the obedience clubs over here support it, but none are actually actively teaching classes. VIP does both beginner & advanced classes (which is where I train) but it's a private company & much more expensive & is also half way between Brisbane & the Gold Coast, so a long way for most of Brisbane to travel to. So these beginner classes held by DWDCQ are a great opportunity to start learning .
