:)

Hi everyone!

I will have to quickly introduce my self since I've just joined the Dogzonline.

I am kind of desperately looking to purchase a Havanese puppy preferably female. After a long search over the Internet my only success was $1500 for a male and $2,000 for female all interstate. I'm basicaly after a pet dog rather than a show dog!

I came across this website http://www.classifiedspace.com.au/1975-Hav...s_for_Sale.aspx They're advertised at $300 and when I got the reply I was told that the're from Leeds in U.K.!

I was told that the puppy comes with the following:

1. Veterinarian Health Certificate and Acclimation Certificate.

2. Vaccination Schedule

3. Worming Schedule

4. Registration papers

5. Pedigree copies of Dam and Sire

6. Their favorite toy

7. A bag of the kibble they are eating.

8. Blanket.

To have the Puppy sent to Australia will be $500 which brings the total to $800! (too good to be true?)

Here's a pic:

Has anyone dealt with this person before? Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Its a scam.

Importing from the UK costs $1000s in air freight etc not $500 plus they have to go through quarantine for a month which will cost well over another $1000.

It cost me almost $500 to bring my pup in from NZ 3 years ago.

Wow thanks I just did a quick search and you are right! It has to stay in quarantine for a minimum of 30 days at the cost of $800 dollars!

I really appreciate your advice!

Just to reiterate - importing a pup from the UK will cost you a MINIMUM of $4 000.

Purchase Price + Vet Fees (for bloodtests, vaccinations, microchipping, export check) + Governement Handling Fees (on both sides) + Freight Costs (Crate & Flights) + Import Permit + Quarantine. Realisitically it can run to $7 000 or $8 000.

Your best to start squirriling away to buy a locally bred dog.

Buying a puppy in a hurry is probably not a good plan ;) Lines need to be researched, and you need to do your homework with regard to the breed's requirements , etc.

Hope you eventually get a lovely pup :)

Yes you are definitely right but one other reason I want one asap is that it took my husband a long time to give into having a dog as we often go camping and pets are not always welcome. I don't want to wait too long as he might change his mind! And in my opinion if no pets are allowed I'm not interested as it seems to me that today there are more and more caravan parks that do welcome pets!

I did quite a lot of research on what type of dog we would like and the bottom line is that it has to be small and does not shed hair.

As you are in QLD, would suggest you PM t-time, she is a very well respected breeder of Havs. :)

oops... I didn't fill in my details and it must have automatically selected QLD... I'm from Vic... Profile updated!!!

You have picked a breed that is very new so buying one in a hurry wont happen.

There are plenty of other non shed breeds around but it depends on what you are wanting to pay ???

Remember though any breed that doesnt shed requires regular grooming or trips to the salon every 6/8 weeks & prices can vary from $55 upwards.

So it depends on whether you plan to keep your havanese in full coat when camping & happy to pick all the crap out of the coat or whether you plan to clip it off

I have to agree. Havanese are not common in Australia, breeders have spent large sums of money importing a number of dogs to ensure the breed is well established here - it is not a dime-a-dozen, so pups won't be available right now for discount prices.

All the Bichon type breeds are "non-shedding" and small - Bichon Frise, Maltese, Havanese and my breed Lowchen. There are breed differences (Bichon Frise and Lowchen tend to be more rough & ready than their Maltese & Havanese cousins) but all fit your starting point.

There are other breeds that fit the small "non-shedding" tag too.

And as Showdog pointed out, you will have ongoing grooming expenses for any non-shedding breed. This has to be factor in if money is tight.

Lhasa Apsos are very similar to Havanese and probably easier for you to get. Havs are pretty rare in the UK too, so even the asking price of that 'pup' you found was far to cheap - a definite to good to be true warning!

Agreed Becks ;) I would be importing from the UK if it was that cheap!!

After meeting my dogs, my sister was desperate for Hav when she returned to the UK.

She contacted loads of *special* breeders who came up with cheaper prices but then found out it was actually a new Nigerian scam going around!:( They were targeting rare breeds particularly which was interesting - she reported it to the police and now she wants a Bichon Frise because Havanese are too expensive!!...... Relatives!! :(

I have PMd Flip so she does know the average price for a pup and also pointed her towards the Breed Pages. EVERY Havanese breeder in the country is on DOL Breed Pages so those are the only options.

Thanks everyone for your help I've been away for the Easter break so I was unable to reply.

Yes I did look on the DOL puppies for sale and there all but one sold out and It is a gorgeous girl black with white feet (still trying to convince my husband over the price as girls are more expensive!)

Also I found another website http://www.freewebs.com/yysurhavanese-basenji/available.htm

Does anybody know these people? I have emailed twice with no reply and the mobile is either switch off or not in a mobile service area! I have tried on separate days with the same result!
